I just want to take a moment and congratulate everyone who entered shots on this challenge. There are some incredible bird shots in this challenge.
Hats off to Langdon and the SC. This site has really evolved and is cranking out some great photographs and photographers.
With that said, my score is pretty low - a 5.089 - but deservedly so compared to the quality of the competition.

Awesome job Paul, congratulations! You have to be in the ribbons with that score. Well deservrd I'm sure. Judging by your past winners, is it a picture of your wife in wings? ;) |

Well, she is a top bird but I couldn't get the feathers to stick, so I had to take myself out and about! You just can't get good models anymore.
(The score is on its way down a bit now - quite right too!) |

just kind of plugging along...waving the smoke out'a my face that is left behind from ya'll as I go along. Glad to see that we can play nice again...keep it up...and if you can't I liketh vawendy's "ancient gypsy curse: May a flock of seagulls poopeth on thine head". I hereby double that.... |

Ditto jjstager2's comments.
The variety and varied images made this one of the most enjoyable challenges to rate in along time.
Congratulations to each and every entrant. |

I kinda wish this challenge had been run under Basic...still would have been good, but not so much of the heavy processing.
Some unbelievable scores being posted, and after looking at the entries for this challenge it's quite understandable! |

I'll bet a low 7 won't even make top 5 in this one. |

I still feel bad that I couldn't really compete in this challenge. I've got a shot in, but it was a 10 minute side trip while getting ready to travel for the holidays. I knew it wasn't anything wonderful, but it's a bird challenge -- I had to enter something :D
Let's do this again in the spring!!

However, this applies to people, not birds. He also considers a 90mm - 105mm a "potrait" lens, and I don't think that anyone is going to get a good bird shot with that focal length. I used a 500mm.
Now lets everyone kiss and make up, enjoy the photos and continue voting. |
Did my shot at 117mm.. And you wouldn't guess the shot either. |

I was excited to see this challenge come up but the timing was not the best for me. I'm on vactation and away from my normal bird shooting spots with lots of eagles, falcons and hawks. But I did get a few bird shots while out hiking with my two sons and the one I entered, although not what I would normally shoot, was doing pretty well. Was at 7.2 around 20 votes but checked it today and it had dropped, but still ok.
