The back end is wrong.....the corner on the Celica are more rounded, and this car is one of the sub-compacts like the Cotolla/Tercel......problem is, it's also similar to the Sentra.
The pop-up lights are what're stumping me, 'cause most of the cheapos didn't spend the money on them during manufacturing. The Pulsar did have them, but the tail's too high for a Pulsar.

Jeb, Mr. I Know Cars. :)
What's your guess?
This is the model me thinks.
Although this is an hatchback.

I'm a bit out of practice but here is my gut without researching
It is NOT a Celica or Supra.
It is a Toyota or Nissan for sure.
It has pop up headlights - you can see that in the photo - this should narrow the search Cars with hidden headlamps
It appears the break lights are lit. If so, it does not have a CHMSL (the 3rd center brake light). So unless it its broken or burnt out, then the car would be model year 1985 or older.
My best guess is a mid 80's Toyota Corolla SR5 Nochback
Next time, instead of the camera, grab the shotgun, make them get out of the car lay face down in the field and wait for the police officer to arrive.

Dude, I think you're 100% correct. Definitely matches up to the mid 80's SR5. Totally forgot that car. |

Wow! I forgot all about that thing!
I'm so used to the sedans.
Can we find a rear view to match up?

Well, this is very helpful, cuz really all I could tell the cops last night was, "uh, it was a car, like a Toyota, and I think it was white. The partial license plate was..." If course it was 3:07 AM so I was doing the best with what my brain could give me.
I do agree with the comment above that I'm not necessarily looking to give the kids a criminal record. I don't even know what crime this exactly fits under. I hope they saw me and my big white lens as they drove right by me. That might take care of the problem right there.

I'd like to point out that its a slow day at the office here and I recruited some people who phoned up other people who are also not busy right now. So this was a fun distraction while it lasted. Its unfortunate WHY we had to look but the game itself was fun. |

With the links to ID the car, I feel pretty confident that if they ran a search for currently registered 1985 SR5s with that partial plate, they'd find it.

I can't imagine that with 5 digits of a plate and the info to look for a car that is lets say pre 1992 and Toyota or Nissan they can't come up with the car.
As for a criminal record, if they are kids they will prob get ACOD on a Misdemeanor or even Violation, but that will still be a lesson - needing a lawyer, having to pay a fine and/or do community service as well as make some sort of restitution - even if its with a shovel and bags of dirt.
Stop being a softee. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. |

No offense, but how much experience do you have with the criminal "justice" system?
I see you know the terms, but have you been on the other side of the line?, from your comment- I seriously doubt it.
Also, why do you feel that their parents paying a lawyer (I hate those) is going to teach them a lesson? Nope, fail.
As for being a softee? Yeah, let me catch you screwing around on my property... You'll wish I had called the cops. Don't worry though, the "time" wouldn't be much longer than 10 minutes... No need to spend craploads of tax dollars, waste part of a persons life on jail/prison time(which incedentially is nothing more than the higher education system for criminals, if they weren't a criminal when they went to jail, I promise they will be when they get out...). Oh, and my method is far more satisfying and exciting too...
Softee indeed...
BTW: I am sorry if I have offended you, but I feel it's important people realize that there are often far better ways to deal with things..
--BTW2: Yes I am aware there is a certain risk of liability here, I just choose not to spend my life cowering in fear and relying on others to do what needs to be done. -Cheers! |

Yeah, when YOU go to jail after your little lesson, that'll teach 'em for sure.

Cory
Statistically, these are suburban kids doing a lawn job. BTW, they werent very smart, doing it with the lights on.
They got caught, so yeah they get slapped on the wrist in the big pic but 50 of their friends get the message and also stop doing it.
They arent going to prison, just perhaps a holding cell (which can be fun if its nite and everyone is drunk) |

Well, the word on the street is because I am not the owner of the field there is no current "victim" (unless the owner wants to press charges) so the police won't file a report. Disturbance of the peace has to go on for at least 15 minutes. Woo hoo! Justice! |

Agreed, that is something you must avoid. Hence, I've never suggested that you assault them. Scare them? Hell yes. Inconvenience them? Yep. Destroy their property in return? Check! - Injure them or falsely imprison them? Absolutely NOT!
Oh, and do note, this changes from state to state, but depending on the crime that is being committed, that is, if it is a felony in progress, or life (my own or others) is endangered- I can LEGALLY make them look like Swiss cheese, I'm just more for second chances..
(and on the subject of the car/field thing.. Yes, a car IS a deadly weapon...)
Again though, not to get lost in the flames---
Do not commit a crime, do not endanger yourself or others... Make some caltrops, put them in the entrance to the dirt area, and Viola!- you haven't committed a crime - you have defended your property, while perhaps providing a valuable lesson by inconveniencing the jerks+flattening their tires, and you haven't caused me to have to pony up more tax $$ to pay for our completely fecking useless justice system. |

And there always exissts the possibility that the property owner *is* the vandal, or closely related, and would be allowed. . . |

If you have a video camera, those often do better in low light than still cameras, and you could document the entire activity. You might also want to light them up with one of those super-powerful flashlights and make their activity less enjoyable.
If it's not your field I'd be hesitant to place any "traps" for them -- you'd be guilty of trespass and possibly vandalism yourself if you do. |

Agreed. If you get another chance, be sure to use an external flash so they KNOW you took a picture of them. ;-) |

With the information you have now,( probable white 1985 SR5, and a partial plate) you can get the registry information from a friendly police officer or insurance investigator. If the driver is a kid living with mom and dad, a visit to their home might be the easiest way to stop these late night rides. If he's on his own and thinks this is fun, there isn't much you can do. Should you go with the suggestion of using caltrops or a paintball on this car, on another person's property, then the police would have an actionable offense. |
