I think this shot is close to being very good but something is not quite right, any sugeestions?
By critical I can handle it : )

a little more contrats to the main subject would help bring it out from the beautiful but dark bg

looks like underexposed to me, I suggest playing with the levels and curves under photoshop can help.

Yeah, looks a tad underexposed. The bird was making a turn I presume, would have been nice to be able to capture it in a more symmetrical stance. The 8.5 frames/sec of the 1D MII should help to get that ;-)

Looks like you introduced some noise in the sky when you did your post processing. Also there is still a colour cast/haze in the shot. I like the composition though. I'd like to see a resized copy of the original.

It appears to me that your camera metering was effected by the sky too much and wound up slightly underexposing. I don't know how close this bird was to you, but did you consider using a powerful flash unit? It would have helped with stop action and also capturing the detail of the underwings.

heres one slightly better
and here is very dark original


is there a neat image equivalent? I dont have neat im.

I think I would of needed more like a spotlight : )

Check out Noiseware. It's a free download and seems to work well.
