Hey Christoph, do I need my flash? Are we planning to find any of those, umm, out of the way places? Remember that it is COLD and sitting indoors drinking beer or other beverages my be a valid back-up plan. |

For those of us too poor or tired of using the Deutsche Bahn there's a great alternative thing called rideshare.
check it out here: //www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de/.
It's (usually) reliable, much cheaper than those DB suckers and more fun because you're in company with other ridesharers.
just give em a call and you'll see how easy and convenient it is.
As for locations, yes I was thinking about showing you some interesting urban decay in or around Berlin (see earlier post) if you're up for it. You just need to dress properly! ;-)
I'm still in Dresden but will make my way to Berlin later today (hitch hiking) so should we meet up for a Bier in the evening somewhere?
BTW tram and subway tickets are really cheap this weekend in Berlin AB. You buy a single person/trip ticket for 2,10€ and it's valid for the whole day. |

We will be arriving at 2200 to the Hauptbahnhof from Frankfurt - ICE 290. Maybe you can meet us there? |

By far the coldest day of the year here. Sub sub zero temps, blustery winds, but nice sunshine! But cold. Did I mention it was cold?
Then we discovered that if you want to eat in Berlin you can have Chinese, Turkish, Indian, Vietnamese, Sudanese, more Turkish, and Greek, to name a few, but you cannot find German restaurants. Rather strange....
And a couple random snapshots of the gents:

We won't see anything from Christoph for awhile - he has to do the whole "get the film developed and scan the negatives" thing. He's sorta given up on the digital part of photography. :-) Don't know if Milosh will post anything soon - he's on a whirlwind tour of Europe while he has some time off, but I can vouch for the fact he has some very cool stuff! So stay tuned - hopefully that will appear in this space eventually. Or in the Lensbaby thread, perhaps.
I have some tourist shots but have just spent all day on a train and/or in train stations waiting for trains and haven't had a chance to go through stuff yet. Maybe later this week.
But we did have a very good get-together! |

Some tourist shots. No comments are required; more info is included with the photograph in some cases; views are welcome so the poor things don't feel neglected.
As I said before, hopefully Zigomar will eventually post stuff - he did the cool Lensbaby and wide angle stuff. And Mephisto was totally old school. Didn't have a digital camera with him at all.

How cold does Berlin get? I like it -5C or so, and I think -10C is pretty cold. It's been known to get as cold as -28C here, and I stay indoors when that happens. I want to go to skiing in Germany one of these years, but would like to know what I'm up against. :) |

I don't know about normal weather patterns, Louis, but that first day we were in Berlin it was in the -10C or below range. Warmed up enough by evening to snow a bit, and was downright balmy (near the freezing mark) and snowing the next day. |

Thanks for sharing your pics, Melethia. I live vicariously through everyone's GTG's :) |

And now for the rest of the story.... :-)
(And apologies that these don't run in order - I did the zip upload and it did not keep the order I put them into the zip file... grr. We do need a better way to upload and organize more than one at a time!)
More trains and stations, and some randomness:
A visit to Tempelhof Airport (now closed):
Some tourist sites - the Jewish Memorial and that gate thing:
And a stop at a pub:
We also stopped by a gallery and visited the exhibition of a photographer named Don McCullin. It was very, very sobering. His work covers wars, famine, disease, until you reach the rooms covering his most recent photography - now still lifes and landscapes. If you get a chance to see his work, in any form, I recommend you do so. |

Cool stuff deb! I'm still busy doing family visits and all the fuss, but will try to get something posted before the next decade.
Later.

Last time I was in Berlin they had a wall around it. Looks like it has changed quite a bit! Great photos- thanks for sharing your views of the city! My shots of the place are on film and I don't have a scanner. Mostly touristy anyways. Still have a couple of Ostmarks someplace.

I got a chance to borrow Melethia's wonderful 10-22mm wide lense (thanx Deb), and it reminded me how much I love this focal range. Here's my little homage to the master himself - nixter.
