This weekend I had planned to shoot two models. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Struggled planning both styles so close together, but did a lot of planning for ideas. The shoot on Saturday was supposed to be at the models house in NYC and the shoot on Sunday was supposed to be at my place....here are the two scenarios that happened.
Saturday's Shoot:
Had everything planned, discussed the style of shoots, threw around ideas. Was completey ready for the shoot. The Model has a EXTENSIVE closet of clothing...more than I've ever seen, so there were a plethora of ideas that you can come with one at the shoot as well. So I got all my lights packed up. Packed the reflectors and tripod. Grabbed my laptop to download the photos on. Had the cords to connect the laptop to the TV and to connect the camera to the laptop. Had my homemade softbox. Pulled out of the driveway....then realized I forgot something...went back in and grabbed a couple of surge protectors. Drove about half an hour to HomeDepot and picked up extra lights and extension cords. Sat in Traffic on the way to home depot...called the model to let her know I would be an hour late. Drove an hour and a half to NYC. Sat in traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel. Driving through the city my car was scraped slightly by a bus. Drove aroud for half an hour searching for a parking spot. Got out of the car to unload my stuff..........and yep...FORGOT MY CAMERA!!!!! I had it sitting in my bag on the couch at home. Luckily the model was someone I've shot many times and have become good friends with (that and she wasn't even close to being ready either), so we just hung out for a while and then I drove home.
Sunday's shoot:
As expected...everything was planned. Had several ideas...probably ideas that I knew i couldn't pull off but were going to try anyways. Had rooms that I had planned on shooting in. The model was great and very enthused...shining personality so I was really excited about the shoot. I just recently bought the house, so there is hardly any furniture and makes great for shooting and determining how i want to set up the house in the future (ie...how the studio in the basement should be set up). Well days before the shoot I go to take a shower (keep in mind i've had the house for less than 6 months) and the tub is clogged up (i have no hair so no I didn't do it). I put the max gel, the foam, the crystals...all that good stuff and it only got worse. I was using a snake and that wasn't even working. I was going to call a plumber when I did something stupid...I accidentally cracked the tub at the drain (fiberglass tub). I immediately ran to the bedroom closet (on the other side of the tub) and put a hole in tee wall to see if it was leaking down on the floor...didn't quite look like it, then it dawned on me...OH CRAP. Ran downstairs to the basement area (where I had planned on doing most of my shooting and yep.....water was leaking into that room from the ceiling. Of course bucketed all the water out of the tub and cleaned up the mess downstairs. Tried to use on of those fiberglass repair kits....no luck...still leaking. So now I'm two days before the shoot (with a shoot on Saturday) trying to replan. She shows up Sunday, we throw around ideas...and we shoot. First room we shoot in I plug in my 1000W light and 1200W lights and shoot two shots, when all of a sudden I tripped a fuze. I go to the fuze box and tried again...tripped the fuze again...obviously that wasn't going to work. So we did most of our shots with either just the 1200W light or the 1000W light. For the final part of the shoot i needed both lights. Plugged them up and shot about 15 shots with them...but then I needed a 600W light for the final few shots (only needed about 3)....Got 1 shot before the fuze blew...or so i thought. After the model left, I went to go clean up and tried to find the fuze that I tripped....but there wasn't one that needed to reset. So I go back upstairs...cut on the narmal light and realized that I had accidentally pulled the surge protector slightly out of the socket which is why all the lights went out....lol.
Oh well at least I got some great shots on Sunday...and rescheduling with the model I shot on Saturday. As for the tub..>I'm showering at my gym for a while and getting a new shower put in...so no need for the plumber....yet. |
