Hey all Canon people,

Looking for freeware for a Canon driver so I can download all the great shots I've been taking the last few days.

Already tried Blitware (first one to turn up on Google) and wasted a couple of hours with it, so please don't steer them my way!

Thanks,

Susan

Why not just use an inexpensive card reader and copy the files? That's what I do. I don't ever mess with special software to do it.

I'm using Ray's spare card reader and already tried to do just that. No go.

Unfortunately, most of the stuff they have is updater apps and you need your original version on a disk. Don't know why they do this, as this stuff is only marginally useful if you don't have one of their cameras.

Don't know why a card reader would not work. In Windows, if the card tries to use a drive letter that is already in use, the card will mount but not show up as a drive letter. Does it appear to be installing drivers and recognizing a new mass storage device has been detected?

I can walk you through changing the drive letter if that is the case.

I'm dowloading to Windows Vista (oh gawd 2x the potential for screwups, lol) and already did try just a straightforward plugging the card reader into the same slot I always use. Nuthin at all.

Will try the link Dave sent me and get back to you...*cross fingers*

OK...my Windows vista PC is letting me down yet again, even after rebooting with the download...ready to boot the Pieca Crap out the window. Looked for a Mac OS X version of the download but none exists. Damn planned obsolecense.

Spiff, haven't yet checked what you've sent me but will get on there once done here...

So although my iMac doesn't recognize the Canon either, thank gawd my rarely used iPhoto does, and is patiently downloading the whole card for me...at a snail's pace, true, but at least I feel like I am making SOME headway. The pics will be on the iMac, which is their final destination anyway. How much PS'ing, esp important stuff like resizing, is something else altogether!

I have several older card readers that won't read the higher cap. cards

Finally managed to get things going again, with help from the iMac. Thanks all for help and advice!
