Welcome to Team Canada's Loonie Bin
This is something that was brought up during the Toronto GTG today; that we would like a place for Canadian DPCers to congregate, share photos and advice, post photos, and comment on others. If you post a photo, you can be sure that other Canadian DPCers will leave you a comment or two. So, if your from Canada, we'd love to see your photos. If you are passing through Canada, post away. If you are planning a trip to Canada, this is the place to arrange a meetup with some Canadians.
If you have any ideas for what you want out of this thread, let me know, and I will add it to this post.
Lets see your shots Canada!
ETA:
If anyone is on flickr, I created a group there called "Team Canada's Loonie Bin". Feel free to join it as well.
DPL Edit
Interested in a Team Canada DPL... check out post 71 and onward in this thread.

Sounds like a great idea! I'm from Windsor so there's urban decay everywhere but I've got exams this and next week so I don't have much time to shoot. Oh and it's freezing :) |

I will get the posting started... here is a shot of Nathan Phillips Square, taken during the Toronto GTG on December 12 2009. Thanks to Shutter-For-Hire for organizing the GTG, and to him, and david_c for lending me their tripods that evening.

It was great to put some faces & personalities to the usernames! A couple of quick-edits, I've got nearly 250 images to look through....
I showed up an hour late, missed the Timmy's meet-up, lost jeger's phone number, and figured I was done for. A two-hour trip, and I was gonna be all alone in downtown Toronto. Something made my spidey-sense tingle, so I wandered over to City Hall, and sure enough...DPCers!
Looking up University Ave, trying to keep up with the Young Guns... Shutter-For-Hire, VitaminB, jeger, and wolf.
A group-self-portrait in the reflections of the ROM's new addition. I agree with everyone...it's OK on it's own, but ruins the aesthetic of the old-school architecture of the ROM.
from L to R: me, Shutter-for-hire, jeger and basssman7.
Just one of the "WTF?!" moments we experienced on the GTG. As we were shooting some card of the ROM, this Dino-LochNess Monster mascot...or whatever the heck it was supposed-to-be...dressed up like Santa or Rudolph, but calling himself "Gordo" (probably short for Gordon, but simply "fat" in Spanish), came wobbling up to jeger. I think he asked Jon for a quarter, but I can't be sure.
We headed down Queen St. W. towards "Graffiti Alley", we spotted this piece tucked in the nook of a building.
We all got some cool shots from that Graffiti Alley, but drz01 must have the best shot on his card, by far...oh, Dave! Where is she, my man??
Last of the quick-edits...we were hanging out at Nathan Phillips Square as dusk fell...by this time, we had walked full-circle back to where we started, and my extremities were frozen. We were hoping to get the skaters whirling around the public ice like the faithful at the Kaaba, but I couldn't get it right. Maybe one of the better photogs has something on their card.

Ahhh...that's better. w00t!
OK, so...we were down to 6, and headed over to graffiti alley, an alley where the property owners either disregard or actually encourage graffiti artists to paint the walls. We went through the first block, and decided to make a quick detour around a construction site, to the continuation of GA. We pop around this corner...and smack dab in to the middle of a photoshoot. There's a photog (let's call him The Kid), his model and two assistants...one of whom is kind of struggling with a huge Cameron reflector. He's got no lights up, he's trying to work with the available light and the reflector, so we say what's up? Turns out his power pack for his AlienBee wasn't working...probably had something to do with the cold weather.
Fortune smiled on him...I was carrying my Lastolite 24" ezybox hotshoe. I popped it open, tossed him my CyberSync for his hotshoe, and we proceeded to blast 30 frames or so. drz01 sidled up next to The Kid and looked like he was trying to manually sync his shutter (lol!) to the flash fires...and judging from the frame he posted up above, he did a credible job. We did the handshakes all around, we tell him about DPC, he tells us about his networking site...so I looked him up. Nice work, Kid...
