Hi Sue, your original entry could've been fixed with a little hue adjustment. I still prefer your original entry though because of the clouds. It somehow gives it more impact IMO. :)

I love that second shot. You might even want to take a few more perspectives of that, maybe with the dial and the wall at similar heights so that the needle appears to pointing to something on it, though that might be difficult. But that second one is a huge improvement. Really great job.

thanks for your thoughts....I get some interesting looks squatting in the gutter taking photos at different angles :o) but - it is a fascinating subject. One of these days a seagull/plane will fly past at the right moment and the dial will be pointing right at it!

While it's true that the color is much better in your reshot, I prefer the cropping and composition of the first one. In addition, I would consider cloning out the thing on top of the roof of the museum. I think your entry shot suffered more from poor exposure and a lot of the problem with color balance would have been fixed with better exposure.

While looking at it yet another time, I think I would reshoot it again and this time use a portrait format, instead of the landscape format you used initially. Make sure the left side of your frame gets pretty close to the bottom edge of the sundial so that you don't include extraneous elements that you have to crop out later.

I love the colors in the second one, but the perspective and the clouds in the sky from your entry. Really visually interesting subject.
