tonight, my grandfather passed away after 88 exceptional years of life.

he was an: air traffic controller, a WWII veteran, a patriot, a loving grandfather, a moral father, a comedian,a golfer, a patient person, a keeper of secrets, a wonderful person who has made his impression on the life of everyone who he has met.

this last june i drove to see him fallen from his former glory in a depressing, lonely nursing home where he has lived for several years despite efforts made to move him somewhere where he could at least continue living and not just being alive. as his only grandson weve have always shared an unspoken bond and i was fortunate enough to have my camera and be able to capture what being with his distant daughter and grandson made him feel through all of the gloom of the home. this is a picture of my mother and him at the restaurant of one of the golf courses he used to really enjoy.

it may not be perfect it may not be well lit it may not be the sharpest of the bunch but it has character. i can see it in his face clear as day; an escape, a relief, happiness.

i have uploaded the photo full size to DPC and would love if some of you could have a go at editing it as you see fit. thank you for reading if you got this far. im glad my memories of him are worth that time.

What a gift, and what a loss. My condolences.

You know, I'm not sure I'd change a thing in the edit. Anything I could do would feel like I was diminishing his spirit, or corrupting your love of him.

thanks for both of your kind words. i actually have an edit of my own, this file is just a simple raw conversion so that it can be edited.

great picture which really doesn't need much. Here a minor edit to bring him up front a little more.
