I would like to recommend a challenge called Pre-Critique, followed next week by a challenge called Post-Critique. Here's the idea:
Basically, someone takes a photo of a subject and situation they CAN replicate the following week. After the votes and critiques are in, they they take a photo of the same subject & situation using the suggestions in the critique. It would have to be two challenges, one after another, perhaps member challenges. And, the challenges would probably be open subject, not dictated. I would recommend an asterisk or pop up box for voters, to inform them of the need for strong critique / suggestions-for-improvement during this challenge. It may also give them the desire to post helpful critiques from then on!

Interesting idea, but hard to implement - you'd lose the anonymity of a normal challenge, as by the second challenge you'll know exactly who took which photo... plus would you really want to vote on the same images twice?

Good points indeed. I may actually want to vote on them twice though, but only if they made the improvements recommended. I love before and after shots, and this would kinda work in that way. The anonymity would be shot though. Not sure how to work that...

I think that's a great idea.
But it would be a rather difficult challenge to program.
It seems that for now it should be pretty easy to do something like that within the Feedback forums - perhaps just a specific forum for that that allows for before and after threads that are linked together.
There'd be not voting, but in this sort of situation that's not the point (though it'd be good to know what score you might have gotten). |

It would be nice to post both pictures..before and after during the second week |

I like the idea. One way to do it, and perhaps a nice addition to the site to have an "anonymous" nonscoring critique area, where you can post shots and have them anonymously critiqued. Then you could submit either that one or the improved shot to the challenge. Both shots could be shown during the challenge.
In fact, I think it would be nice if it worked this way all the time! Why not allow people to get anonymous feedback (the picture is also anoymous) during the pre-challenge. I think the quality of the shots would go up, and we would all learn something!
