I am looking at a maybe purchase of the above lens.
It has a scratch very close the the outer rim of the front glass.
Have only seen in pics but am able to go see and test the lens.

How much less is the lens worth with the scratch?
Would you purchase it with a scratch if it is only a couple of mm from the outer edge?
What is the best way to test this lens for sharpenss and anything else I should look for?

That scratch won't affect image quality at all. The worst it could possibly do is create a small flare when shooting towards the sun, but the lens hood would minimize the chance of that happening.

I understand this lens also collects a bit of dust.

How many dust specs before you go - NO, NOT FOR ME?

I would just wonder what kind of accident caused the scratch.
