Hello DPC! Long time no see : ) How ya doin'?
Now that the motor racing season is well and truly underway I've dragged myself out of hibernation (or, I've forced myself to make time for photography again). Hopefully I'll be a bit more regular around here.
Here's the first batch from this weekend's Touring Car meeting, focusing on the people. The cars will follow once I've hacked my way through the 1600 shots I managed to take :-/
Enjoy!

Hi Ben!
Lens was a Sigma 100-300 f4, with a 2x extender for the first 2 shots.
The last of the girls was with the Canon 28-135.
As far as I can remember all were shot wide open in aperture priority, mostly from the middle of a huge crowd jostling for autographs! |

Hi bod! Glad you're back. Looking forward to seeing your challenge submissions, again. (I tried to check out the touring car but it was taking too long for this dial-up user. :( How about putting some in your portfolio?)

Hi Bod, nice to see your name and photos again. Hope your back. The girls are darling. Ahhh to be that young again!! They really are cute and the head shots are awesome. Good work, keep them coming.
What lens did you use (for the girls)? |

Justine! Great to see you're still around. My first ever comment was from you : )
Lens details are in my second post ... basically, the Sigma 100-300 f4, an awesome lens that weighs more than me!
Marjo, my host is usually reasonably fast - may be worth trying it again later. I can't get at my portfolio till I shell out to renew my membership! At the moment I'm waiting for a challenge that grabs my imagination before throwing myself back to the lions ; ) |

Ed, I'm out of practice, so might not be competition for a while ; )
Harvey, your wish is my command ... here's the cars from Free Practice/Qualifying on Saturday ...

The head on shots were all with the 100-300 plus extender at 500-600mm. 1/200s in shutter priority.
Some of the panning shots were with the 28-135, others with the 100-300. 1/100s in shutter priority.
I think this crop (processed, and not quite 1:1) shows off the quality of the Sigma glass quite nicely ...

This is like my 2nd photo fantasy. Motosports rule. 1st is to take pictures at Pikes Peak during the climb. You are so lucky :) More please.
Great to see you back with some impressive gifts :)

Hi Welland. Nice shot of the Sub in your portfolio. I've thought about desaturating some of my shots like that - looks like it works really well.
The race day shots will take a couple of days to post - I've managed to narrow it down to just under 200 so far! - but they will be posted : ) |

Scoobies rule. As a current shopper for a new camera. The 10D is definitely the one to get for motorsports? |

It's certainly good enough. The main advantages for me over the 300D are (if memory serves me) the larger buffer/faster burst and the fact you can seperate the autofocus from the shutter release. That, plus it looks more 'pro' (it's amazing how the other photographers with big lenses and nice cameras suddenly become friendly when you have a big lens on a nice cam!!!).
Having said that, I wouldn't consider the 300D at all inadequate for motorsports.
I don't know enough about the D70 to comment on it, but again, I would expect it to be well up to the job. |

Finally! I've managed to finish sorting through the race day shots.

Be sure to check out page 2 too.
One of my fav's, simply because it's a buzz being able to get this close ...
Now I gotta figure out which one to enter into the Green Flag photography competition. I may be back for some advice! |
