lutchenko and I have decided to see if we can earn a bit of extra cash to buy some new kit by starting a photography business. As full time sales and marketing managers the business plan was the easy bit. If we ever get any customers the photography will be the tricky bit! but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained.

We have both dabbled with writing websites in the past but this time decided to go for a FLASH site (I know it was a bad choice but we got dazzled by the pretty pictures). We purchased a template online and from the the abundance of free video tutorials have managed to switch out the dummy text and photos. However, we are now stuck at the last hurdle and hope that someone her can help point us in the right direction. We need to create a couple of pop up windows so that people can see our prices etc when they click the more info button. These elements are already created in the template, we just need to work out how to link the button to the pop up. Can anyone help us as we are now soooooo close but failing at the final hurdle.

Chris, Will

been a little bit since flash, but make the link a button, give it the script (guessing your on actionscript 2.0 as its still more common):

on(release){
getURL("www.yourdomainhere.com/NameOfPopUpHere", "_blank");
}

that SHOULD do the trick. Let me know!

On a side note: LIVEBOOKS pricing has just gotten affordable...$39 a month for the site and hosting.

search these forums in the section matching the version of actionsctipt driving the template.

www.actionscript.org

but, i think you could use an onMouseOver / onMouseOff set of commands on the button to eliminate the popup windows that might get blocked by a good number of users. you'd have to have a movie clip for each popup. the clip would be hidden below the rest of the stuff until mouse over, and then go back to hidden on mouse off.

Thanks for the help Adam.
My problem is that I have a few pics in the flash file that I want to make links in order to either pop a window or movie within flash and I'm struggling to see how to do it.
Do you happen to know how?, I'm using adobe flash CS3
Any help is much appreciated

lutchenko,

Okay, flash cs3- are you using actionscript 2.0 or 3.0 though? What is the template made in?

are your images dynamically loaded, or are they built into the flash file?

My best thought is to throw a button over the top of the image, drop the alpha to 0%, and use the same code I gave you.

If you want to send the .fla file my way, I could probably take a look at it within the next hour or two. My email is Adam@AdamMathiasPhotography.com

If I am picturing what you are asking for correctly, I have done this before, and it shouldnt be much of a problem.
