"Gnawer"

Can you guys tell me if it suffered mainly because it was "another" nailbiter entry?

I am more happy with my 5.213 (and 69%) than I would have been with the 5.04 I had when I checked an hour before voting ended. :) However, I was really happy with the photo and it extremely upset me that it was probably being 'punished' for being 'unoriginal.'

I knew when I entered that there would be at least one or two other nailbiters, but how was I supposed to know that there would be 12?!?!

If you thought of it then chances are so did someone else. It happens a lot in the challenges and people don't always score better if there image is original or hasn't been done by someone else.

I think I would've given an "9" or "10". Contrast is good. Composition looks good with the closeup crop. His expression gives a feeling of anxiety or worriness which is usually the reason for nailbiting.

Sorry didn't vote on any of the entries in the "habits" challenge.

Apparently they did. However, if there had been only 2 or 3 of them, I doubt it would have been an issue.

Thank you! Lol, yeah the expression, I didn't notice that until I was editing. He just automatically switched into the "chewing mode" when I posed him. Lol, he channeled all the nervous energy of lettimg me take his picture into chewing. :)

Edit: To reply to faidoi

Ami,

Actually I didn't "punish" your image because it was another "nail biter." It is extremely well done - and probably the best of the "nail biter" series." I especially liked the great tonal range - but disliked the fact that it seemd so "staged." See my original comments.

But 69% in this challenge was really good!

*nods* I know everyone didn't "punish" it, but I could tell from the forums and in general that it was by some. Well, it was staged, but I was going for a "portrait style" photo, so that's why. I don't have the equipment (yet) to take a candid shot I'd be happy with (the background would be too distracting).

Thank you for commenting!

Anyone else? Anyone want to tell me why they didn't like it?

77 people gave me a 4 or less, so I'd like to know why. ^_^

oooh...so sorry i didn't comment at the time. this was definitely my favorite of the nail-biter many and i gave it an 8. it probably deserved a 9 for photographic quality, technique and general appeal but i might have been a bit swayed by the "another nail-biter" thing.

of course my cigaret was (besides a soso foto) given comments like "yawn" so i think there was a tendancy for many folks to use commonness as a reason to discount points.

great shot.

ps...i didn't think it looked staged at all.
