Our Deputy Chief died this morning after battling Cancer for a while. It was actually pneumonia that took him in the end. He worked for the Fire Department for 42.5 years.

However, We need a 16x20 photo of him, but we never got around to taking an official portrait prior to this. We do have the following photo, which was taken with my old point-n-shoot that everyone likes. However, I don't have the knowledge to take this shot and blow it up to 16x20. They'd also like to remove Sam from the background and just have a clean white background behind him. I can do the last, but I don't know how to resize this without it looking crappy.

The full sized image is here.

Here's a small copy....

If you're willing to help it would be greatly appreciated, but not to rush anyone, we'd like this ASAP!!!!

Thank you all.

Not that I can help much, but you need to open your permissions.

Does the link work now? *shrug*

It works now. I can blow it up for you -- either with straight PS or Genuine Fractals, if I can reload my copy (it's not on this computer).

Hang tight...

Link's fine.

Should be able to make an acceptable 16x20 out of this, no problem. Just using Photoshop's upsizing algorithm (bicubic smoother). It won't maybe be up to rigorous professional standards but it will print perfectly OK. You're ok with abstracting him from the BG, you said, right?

R.

ETA: there ya go, Neal's gonna take care of that part for ya :-)

I've upsized it myself, and it looks ok, but I've never tried to print something this large from my old point-n-shoot and am not sure how it'll look.

Thanks everyone.

Image is in the mail to you...sent before I got back here to read that you upsized it. Well you have a comparison anyway.

Hi Nathan!

I've tried to clear up the image a bit with noise ninja, removed the red eyes, and punched a bit of contrast.
Also should make a great photo in b&w.

I've saved one version with bg and other without.
