I just popped in an album that I bought about 13 years ago, and my god its awesome to rehear some of these songs again. Putting me in an awesome mood today.
*13 years is old for me, I know some of you folks can do this with album that you heard 30 years ago.

you're not going to say what album it is? |

My first album was KISS Destroyer, my Mom bought it because of the cartoon like characters on the cover. Although the LP is smaller and shiner it still is regularly played. |

you don't give us enough credit. i rotate through mxpx albums on a regular basis in my car. slowly going the way of the buffalo is one of my favorites.
i listened to cake's fashion nugget for the first time in a long time recently, and it brought back some memories. |

Well youre my age, so it makes more sense that you would know it. I went on a downloading spree yesterday and snagged thier whole discography. Between this, and "ON THE COVER", my day is set. |

Haha, 25+ in punk rock/hardcore years is way over the hill. If I went and saw a band that sounded like MxPx now (and I do on the regular) I usually have a decade on bulk of the crowd.
I did go see them again in 2004 maybe? With Dashboard Confessional at American U in DC. I was a mosh machine haha. |

I was primarily a skanker. I only went to punk shows with ska band openers. My marilyn manson look alike boyfriend stayed home when i did. it was too "happy" for him. He was such a tool..
oh..on the 25 being old at punk shows thing...when I was 16 I met this hardcore girl at a show, well all the shows. she was always there, and she was 24. I thought that was the coolest thing ever, I thought she was so mature, she'd teach me things(i know, sounds stupid, remember, i was a 16 year old girl). We dated, I realized she was emotionally stunted and changed my tune on that. but anyway, point being, I bet your more revered by the young kids for going at your age than you think.

Awww, how cute haha. I saw my fair share of ska bands too. I wish I kept track of everyone i've seen, because the list would be pretty ridiculous. I already have my fair share of "I saw (INSERT NOW HUGE BAND HERE) in a basement in 199x" stories. |

I was waaay into Magadog back then, I lived in the Tampa, FL. area and they were local so I saw them a LOT. and one day one of the guys from Magadog saw me wearing a pietasters shirt or something like that and asked if I liked Magadog but he was pronoucing it different than me and my friends did so I was like"umm..sorry dude, I have no idea who that is"..then he said "oh, sorry, I'm in that band, you should come to a show" and walked away. litterally 30 seconds later my brain dechipered what he said and I was stuck, alone, behind the counter at work so I couldn't chase him down. Then my co-worker came in a few hours later. I ran to the music sotore and found him on the cover of one of thier albums and was so p.o.'d at my own stupidity.
anyway, i'll shut up and get this thread back on track. :)

that's why i like shows at the electric factory. i used to be downstairs in the pit, now i leave that to the kids and stand upstairs with a drink in hand.. when i went to the nintendo fusion tour to see weezer with fall out boy, motion city, and panic i felt like my group of friends would've been the oldest people there by at least 10 years if it wasn't for all the grown ups by the bar |

Haha. Oh ska, how I miss you.
Yeah, most of my friends were in bands, so between going with them out of state, and being friends with a lot of promoters (as well as booking my own stuff) I got to meet a ton of bands. Saves The Day, Brand New, Coheed and Cambria, Lamb Of God, and so many others.
Then for a while I was doing security at this place in Delaware, so I would meet all of the "new class" of punk rock bands that come through, although most of them turned me off attitude wise...something about guarantees and buy outs and all that crap really takes the punk out of punk rock. |

Haha, oh don't get me wrong, I still spend my fair share of time dancin (more like fighting invisible ninjas with spinkicks and windmills) but its nowhere like the nonstop marathon of mosh it used to be for me 10 years ago. Now I go off for certain bands, and I pay for it for a week with an achey back and sore knees. |

Steef - where you from in NJ? |
|
|
11/02/2009 10:51:41 AM · #18 |
grew up right outside of Ocean City NJ, now live in central jersey near Monmouth University. my current location is a little better for getting to shows since it's a quick train ride into NYC and a relatively short drive to philly. but it sucks really bad when you have a halloween party and pretty much everyone there is a yankees fan and a small subset of people are holding it down for the phillies. :( although, it was pretty sweet watching the eagles kill the giants ;)
this thread is now way off topic. by the way, if you want some get up kids tickets for this weekend at the TLA, let me know, i don't think i can make it. my friend saw them in brooklyn on saturday and said they were awesome. |

Craziness. We have a place in Tuckahoe/Marmora, and my family is from Monmouth County (Freehold) (I am from DE, now living in PA though)
Thats tempting for this weekend....let me check what I have to do this weekend. I've only seen them once, and it was pretty awesome (Weezer, TGUK, and Piebald at the E-Factory) |

More back on track (yet you 2 can still appreciate this I'm sure)
Saves The Day's "THROUGH BEING COOL" came out 10 years ago today.
That blows my mind a little, as I remember getting that album and everything I did that day. Pretty crazy. |

hahaha yeah, that's crazy. and yep, my parent's still have their house in marmora. i'm down there all the time. PM me if you want those tickets and i'll over night them to you.
i'm waiting for someone a little older to come into this thread and talk about it inspired them to put in an old zeppelin album or something. it's really cool how you can associate what you were doing a certain day, or a period of your life with an album or song. for instance, i can't listen to reel big fish without thinking about making out with my girlfriend in 8th grade with that playing in the background |

The first time I got thrown out of a show was during Reel Big Fish in 1998 maybe? Maybe 97? Reel Big Fish, Spring Heeled Jack, and Frenzal Rhomb at the Stone Balloon in Newark, DE.
