i went shooting a while back with a neighboring club and there was a guy there with some very fun toys.

he had a 50mm f/1.2L and he let me strap it on to my camera.

In return, he rummaged around in my camera bag to play with my toys (angle finder, 50mm f/1.4 and my 80-200).

Now I am trying to remember if it is correct, but my rusty memory is swearing to me that he actually strapped my Tamron 17-50 on to his body and had some fun with it.

I don't know him, so I never saw any of his pics - and to be honest, I was having fun with the f/1.2L, so now that I am considering which way to go with my next camera purchase, I am suddenly remembering this and scratching my stupid head. I remember this because I told him that he couldn't use that lens on his camera, yet he used it anyway. I THINK it surprised us that it gave no troubles mounting it up.

Please, someone help me out.

Yes, I know that there's going to be a smaller image circle, but are there any parts of the zoom range that allow the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 to be used on a FF cam?

Thanks.

Discussion here.

Bottom line: it will fit any Canon body (it does not protrude into the mirror box like a Canon EF-S lens will) but it will throw a heavily-vignetted (circular) image throughout the zoom range.

thanks bear. I knew I had seen that somewhere else before, but couldn't find it. My brain has been leaky lately.

this is what I was looking for:
"The Tamron 17-50/2.8 is (as mentioned by Mark) a lens that does fit and work on a full frame body. Anyhow, due to the optical construction of this lens, it does NOT cover the full frame at any focal length with any aperture setting. (Tested on my EOS 300 (film)" Rainer T

There is also a pic in that link that showed me the extent of the vignette and that was what I was wondering about. From the comments in the link, I assume that the amount of vignetting doesn't change significantly through the range.

Good to know.

It will work in a pinch, but it will be necessary to crop to mimic the APS-C sized sensor.
