What about a challenge where photoshop is the minor element in a picture and the picture, as taken, is the major element. A no editing challenge? |

Is this Digital 'Photography' Challenge, or Digital 'Photoshop' challenge? |

Straight from camera has been done before. It was a good challenge and interesting to take part in.
I have always argued that there is too much emphasis on PS, rather than minimal editing. But with DPC, that's the nature of the beast. PS is an integral part of editing and challenges here. |

It's called Minimal Editing, and this whine gets circulated about once a month.
The bottom line is.......go ahead and shoot fabulous pictures, submit and win.
You can talk all you want about "Purity in Photography", but be careful that you don't have all kinds of in-camera processing already set to optimize the image......."Right out of the Camera".
You've been here for a while, and have done *very* nice work.....what's up now?

We had a "No Edit" side challenge a while back. It was interesting to see how people shoot without the bells and whistles of PS added. It was a good SC, and allowed many good comments among the group about basic shooting skills.

Hey, show us how it's done. |
if they would ever make the challenge i would show you all how its done, how you can take a picture that is literally straight from the camera(my camera doesn't have sat, contrast settings, it does have "brightness" but that could be avoided by posting the EV setting used(0))
anyway, if the SC makes this challenge i will show you all how to take a picture that is not edited in any way and it look better than some of this PS crappola, like lynn said, this is digital photography challenge, not the photoshop challenge |

See, that's the thing......how is it that you figure you need a "special" challenge, if in your own words: "i will show you all how to take a picture that is not edited in any way and it look better than some of this PS crappola"?
That's really what I think you'll find here with statements like you're making.....put up, or.....
That's all I'm saying.....why not just shoot that picture now, enter it, and win?

Wasn't it Ansel Adams who said, "great photographs are not taken, they're made." Or something to that effect. |

I think NikonJeb is onto something here. If sonyalphausr wants to show us all how it is done, he should enter completely unedited shots in normal challenge that blow us away. That would be the best example of what he is trying to get at. Competing with other unedited images is not a true challenge, but against an open field of entries of all types of editing.
I can't wait to see his results.

I agree that processing can be overdone and one should learn to use the camera but i do consider that post processing is in some ways the equivalent of all those chemicals in old fashioned photography |

Hmmm? I think that maybe ineedauniquename needs a new keyboard with a return key that don't stick : )
I like minimal edit too, but good photos just look so juicy after you do a little tweaking.

Do you know, I think ineedauniquename agrees that processing can be overdone... ;¬P |

Bold in above quote added for emphasis.
Actually Sean, your camera CAN do many things to a photo during JPEG capture. See pages 87 & 88 (Image processing) of the Sony DSLR-A200 user manual.
