Yes, of course. The theme will be Hair Dryers and Chickens. Try to be creative.

Seriously, it's a free for all. You're welcome to pick your own theme, of course, but we won't hold you to it. Also, I see that you're (clearing throat) just a Registered User. No shame in that, I suppose, but to freely upload photographs, you'll have to cough up $25 for membership. Of course the benfits of membership extend far beyond being able to take part in our little party...

Bump! Any really cheap film camera will do...

I have a holga, let's see if I manage to use it in November. You can put me down, although I expect I'll end up only posting one or 2.

anyone have any thoughts about asking Langdon for a Film (or Film/Alternative Processes) section in the Galleries? It might be nice to have a single location where we could look and see what others have been up to on the analog side of things...

I just picked up my photos from the developer and I think they are unusable. I don't think I'll be able to
participate as all I have is junk.

If it's any consolation, I just had a roll from my Smena developed, and maybe one of the whole couple dozen is in focus! Post a few of yours anyway. Maybe they're not as bad as you think.

I might try a bit of post processing, and see if they can be improved. I used 400 iso film, I didn't get any bright and beautiful colours, mine are dull and muddy, images blurred but not in a good way. There is a streak of glob on a couple which seems to have smeared in a thin streak along most of them. In some places there is a mark that looks like a brown stain from a mechanical roller. It looks like there was a paper jam in the photo-processor as some seem a bit torn or scuffed along the bottom edge. And a couple of images are missing.

It's time to get a negative scanner I think. But I'm not sure I can do that in time for the challenge.

Images!

I expect it to be almost December before I can post anything! Absence of a scanner means sending film overseas to get it digitised. All will take time.....

Not necessarily. You can build a repro projector yourself and have your dslr and macro lens do the digitizing. Works for all sorts of film, but best for b&w and slides (positive film). Color negs are hard to convert to positive in Photoshop.
PM me for details.

Thanks Christophe. I may take you up on that. I may still end up sending the first roll away though :)

if we could just use Lomo action I might be interested - but I dont have the time to start faffing about with real film, then developing it, scanning it and doing post-processing tweaks anyway. Not sure at that point it is apreciably different to taking a shot then processing it to Lomo (listen for purists gnashing their teeth :- ) )

LOL. You could be right Steve, but it's fun :)

Arg I left my fisheye lomo in the UK otherwise I would have been well up for this. Might have to get it sent out here...

I've just gone and become a paid up member to take part in this, so please be gentle with me.

I'll be using any or all of my ever-growing collection of older cameras, but I'll start with the Rover, a Diana clone.

To get the film into digital I photograph the negatives using my dslr.

Glad you are here! Can't wait to see your stuff (and your cameras). The DigitalPC people here have been quite tolerant with those of us shooting film. Jedusi's comment below is as harsh as it gets. He is right too. But old cameras, unpredictable results, chemicals... are all great fun to some.

yes, it's more about the fun of the process, rather than just the end result :)

ooh, sign me up! This will be a good excuse for me to use my holga for my experimental class. Most of my images will be in black and white though since the only kind of film I can personally process in that class, but I might handcolor some. I think I also have a crappy lomo "fisheye" lying around :D

We're a gentle group. Sincerity and a good sense of humor will get you far here. Welcome! Glad to have a pseudo-Diana in the collective arsenal.

Jedusi is just jealous, I suspect. He's a threat to no one. Seriously, for us purists, it's all about the process. But really, once you dive in, it's not so hard. Cheap film cameras and drug store film are easy to get. Here in the States, Target will process film and give you a CD for just about three dollars. Done, start to finish. Of course, you can take it much, much farther (enter tph1).

It's in progress, folks, jump right in! Since we have some late starters and other logistical concerns, maybe we'll even take this through December.
