I spent 7 years of my life in a job that involved quick thinking, often in search and rescue. Whilst one team is following the families story, another team is following other leads and avenues. You leave no stone unturned.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. |
exactly... But, really... the Police didn't have a choice in the begining before they knew what had actually happened... Those resources had to go where they had to go to find the kid... Now that they do know, is it really necessary to use a task force to determine the extent of the lie just to add charges.. hmmmmmm..
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.. Seems this family not only got them once, but they are getting them a 2nd time.. If we thought the initial efforts were a waiste, wait til we see what they waiste after it is all said and done.. |

Don't get me wrong, I understand all the viewpoints above. But 5 hours before the poor child was "discovered" in the attic?
Image how much coal or oil was wasted (not to mention productive work time America) generating electricity on all the TV's (or our PC's!) that were left on watching the story unfold. Let me not mention taxpayers money on an understaffed and overworked police force. Oops, I mentioned it :)
If found guilty, charge them with whatever the law allows, fine them, and take some of their ill gotten money the papers or magazines paid them...it will all come out in the laundry. Hopefully the next Cry Wolf will think twice.

From Forbes:
"Heene believes the world is going to end in 2012," she said. "Because of that, he wanted to make money quickly, become rich enough to build a bunker or something underground, where he can be safe from the sun exploding." (The she is an attorney for an associate of Heene)
Where does he plan on building this bunker that will keep him safe from the exploding sun? And for someone that calls himself a scientist he's missing a few of the basic pieces- i.e. sun=required for life. |

On the bright side, that could cut his prison sentence short. |

It would make more sense if was trying to get rich to build a space ship to escape earth before the sun explodes in 2012. Building a bunker just makes him look like a nut. |

Umm, you have that backwards; *first* they get charged, *then a judge or jury will determine if they are guilty as charged, and only then will punishment be determined...

I love this whole panic about 2012 and the end of the world - some people absolutely swear it is going to happen - they are obsessed by it.
I wish I knew someone like that, as it would be fun to get them to hand over all their worldly belongings to me on the 20th on Dec 2012 since they wouldn't be needed them anymore. Then laugh manically on the 22nd when they return, begging for their stuff back.
And if the world does end then I will still have the final laugh as I will have all their stuff.. its a win-win situation for me!

I was reading an article about people preparing for 2012. One of the commenters said "I plan on having enough water and food stored for six months. I am not going to be as unprepared as I was for Y2K."
This comment made me pause.
1) What happened to this guy on Y2K?
2) What good is it going to do to have six months of food and water stored if the world ends?

I thought the same thing about that new movie coming out, 2012. What the hell could it be about? Everybody dying? If the world ENDS, you can't really run for safety... |

Maybe they could charge their fine (credit allowing).

Fame is a Fickle Food (1659)
- by Emily Dickinson
Fame is a fickle food
Upon a shifting plate
Whose table once a
Guest but not
The second time is set.
Whose crumbs the crows inspect
And with ironic caw
Flap past it to the Farmer's Corn ΓΆ€“
Men eat of it and die.
