I'm not sure I like the way it is desaturated.

#1 - there doesn't appear to be a reason for the desaturation.
#2 - it is athematic. There is nothing that lends itself to the localized saturation. There is no reason that suggests itself for the red highlight. It just seems to be there because it is nearby.

On the other hand, you've probably got some interesting colors in the water and the sky to work with.

Another option therefore, if you want to preserve your gut feeling that made you go selective desat would be to try a low sat/selective desat rather than a straight B&W.

My eyes are a bit wonky at this ridiculous hour, but it seems that there is indeed a tiny bit of blue in the sky.

Anything blue would work nicely in any saturation level to preserve the 'pop' of the yellow boats.

Another thing you might try is giving it a 1970's technicolor, Coronation Street kind of look.

On the merits of the photograph itself, it seems a bit... uninteresting.

Aside from the fact that there are a couple of boats that are the same color, what else is there to grab you?

There's no powerful composition.
There's no emotional grab.
There are no leading lines.
There is little sense of depth.

Sorry to be all negative.
