I have been thinking to myself for a while now that DPC goes through cycles of renewals and changes that affect its population and certainly their behavior concerning what they like and how the vote, this maybe an indication of new memberships or to the maturing of older ones or just a general shift in attitude and perception. I say this because I noticed lower scoring averages for ribbon winning photos, and changes in the way personal scores grow and/or retract during voting based on the time of day of voting or the day of the week or the traditional 100 vote brake point, and a deviation (maybe just an expansion) from the customarily winning subjects.
This is the traditional aurora!! That used to win all the time
This is the traditional flower!! That is not supposed to win with DPC voters

Well, as far as your examples go, we STILL don't see a lot of flowers scoring well, but my GAWD that's an absolutely *perfect* flower, and I congratulate the voters for realizing this.

I agree about some strange results, but I gave up trying to understanding the voting. Just trying to submit my interpretation of a challenge. I still like the voting system, good or wrong. Hating all the voters at the moment, but I'm sure I love all of them tomorrow. |

I don't think anyone has the right to say what should or shouldn't win
how boring would it be if people's opinions and views stayed the same. It's art, it's subjective based on emotions and life experience. Consistency would make this hobby/profession as boring as building model cars out of plastic. |

I also feel that scores are lower than they were in the past. But then again, some challenges defy this trend. For example, in the recent Deep DOF challenge, you would need a 7+ just to crack the top 9.
Also, the HDR challenge saw an 8+ score:
ETA. That 8+ Score was the first we have had on the site since November 08.
