Figured I'd ask all ye of vast knowledge people before I did the search bit ... anyone know of any good upgrade deals for Photoshop or Lightroom out there? I have PS CS3 and LR 1.0, but need CS4 and/or LR 2.0. And as I'm now a fixed income kinda person, I probably should be looking for good deals.... :-)

I figure maybe the better question is whether anyone has heard if a CS5 is just around the corner? I'd hate to upgrade to CS4 only to discover then next version is due out next week...

I have no deals to share but I'll be interested in keeping an eye on this thread. Since coming back I was using a Cs4 trial but now that that is gone I had to buy elements for $99.00 because I couldn't afford CS4 and adobe doesn't seem to offer the earlier versions anymore. I was leery about buying off of ebay because even if not stated the good priced software may have only been update or educational versions. so I'm trying to make elements work. I don't know what lightroom is though or what it does. Can't help there at all.
Good Luck!

You can upgrade to Lightroom 2.5 for $99 on the Adobe website. In my book this upgrade was well worth the money. Lightroom 2 does a lot that 1.0 does not.

It would be helpful to know which platform you need and if you have any of the creative suites or just the standalone Photoshop.

There have been rumors of CS5 arriving in late October or early November, but general consensus is that it won't appear until 2010.

I guess the question would be whether a "just around the corner" upgrade would be the one to support the 7D, or if they'll offer a patch or update to CS4? My guess is that with the 7Ds going out now, they'll have to support in CS4. At least that's what I'm hoping!

I just have the plain CS4 (Windows) and plain LR 1.0 - no suites or anything like that.

More discussion here on the Adobe support for the 7D. Interesting point by one poster that Canon does not reveal their RAW processing to third parties so Adobe has to reverse engineer it. They've been pretty good at that in the past, though, as far as I can tell!

Well like I said, I can already open 7D files in CS4 and they seem OK. I didn't think it would work at all, but I suppose the RAW format isn't all that different from the 5D Mark II. Maybe just a little optimization needed, but I would certainly expect full CS4 support with the next ACR update.

I think I read somewhere that the CS range tends to be updated around March or April.
