I was on vacation in Maui this last week and wandered into the Thomas Barbey Studio. I found myself in complete and utter awe of this mans work. Especially after I found out he does this without Photoshop, at least the majority of it is in darkroom, although he seems very tight lipped about the the process. Either way his work is wonderful and very enjoyable to look at. I found myself inspired to mess around more with overlays and combining images afte viewing his prints. |

hahahahaha I never saw the revival of it.
His response is interesting, but then I also see nothing wrong with facing the reality of art as a commodity.
I'll stand by my earlier comments, but I don't see a whole lot of difference between his approach to "paying the bills" and the manner in which most photogs stay afloat churning out the same senior portraits and weddings shots. There's nothing wrong with being pragmatic and understanding a compromise must be had; either one stays to what they believe to be the creative (art) side of photography and is destitute or one tries to marry (bad pun) that with creating a desired product. |
