Most of you know that about this time every year, I participate in a 2-day, 50 km (yes, that's fifty) walk to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. This year, in addition to signing up to walk, I've also volunteered as a weekend-long crew member at the walks in South Carolina, Maryland and California. I'm also scheduled to walk in Philadelphia in a week and a half, on October 10-11 two and a half weeks, on October 17-18.

I say scheduled because at this point, I have a very real fear that I won't be eligible to walk. All walkers are required to raise a minimum of $1500, and with the economy being what it it, I'm starting to worry that I won't make it. In short, I need your help.

Many of you probably know that I walk for BAMartin, who has been diagnosed with MS for longer than I've even known her. By donating, you're not only helping me reach my goal, you're also helping one of our own who lives with the symptoms and uncertainty of MS every day.

On my donation page, I've posted a short slideshow of the South Carolina walk, where I delivered lunches to other crew members and drove a support vehicle along the route (my license plate is the 1st photo in te slideshow). You can view the slideshow at //main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?px=1930802&fr_id=10760&pg=personal.

After viewing the slideshow, please consider making a donation to support this very worthwhile cause. I'll be extremely grateful to anyone who can donate $1/km ($50) or more, but I'll also be extremely grateful to everyone who donates whatever they can afford. The more I read about the latest research, te more convinced I am that we will find a cure, and that it is closer than we think. We need your help to get there.

Thanks for your generous support.
~Terry

Do you have a link that you can provide us for e-pledges?
09/30/2009 10:12:34 PM · #3
Ok, I'm in. Got a link to where to pledge for that one? The link you have only does pledging for a different walk and I'm a bit too tired to be searching :)

I've fixed the link in the original post. It now goes directly to my page. Sorry for the trouble!

Done deal Terry. A good cause that I never mind donating to.

Are you sure that's the one we're supposed to use? It still mentions the 2009 walk. Will it count toward your goal for October's walk?

That is the correct link. This is for the October 2009 walk.

Thanks!

Oh my goodness! I knew I was tired, but now I feel like a moron. I was booking things for 2010 and had a total brain fart on the year. Please, let's pretend I never asked......

Hey Terry, a few years ago you did a tourney here at DPC, with a fee which was a donation. Are you considering doing it again? I'll donate to the site, but it was fun way to get donations.

Most likely I will, but it will be for 2010 (though I may do one before the end of the year). There's not enough time to pull one together for this year's walk.

Thanks,
~Terry

Doh! Looks like I had the date wrong and I have 2 1/2 weeks -- it's the 17th and the 18th.

Still, I'm getting nervous -- a lot to raise and not a lot of time!

LOL - I just noticed that our Site Council member on Digital Pictures Challenge who is Challenging us to help on the MS Challenge maybe had a mental lapse when he selected a title for this thread.

Bump on Terry's behalf. A very worthy cause. For those of you who may not have worked with the foundation that sponsors these walks/runs/bike rides, I can assure you through personal experience that they do a top-notch job with the events, AND that the support they provide really does get out to those who need it. While this may support Terry's area - and much of the money does stay local - some does go to the national organization to help out in the grander scheme of things. But for the most part, the money raised provides direct services to folks with MS. It's definitely worth your support if you can swing it.
