Treated myself to a Canon 70-300 IS usm for my 40d, didnt do my normal research just saw it in the sale and bought it.
First day out with it yesterday and got this shot

taken at the full 300mm with the aperture wide open i am impressed with the result. Canons middle of the renge lenses are producing awesome fots for me at the moment, at a 1/4 of the cost of the 100-400L i reckon it is the bargain of the century! |

How much did you pay for the lens and where did you buy it?

You should be happy with that lens, I have had one for a couple years and LOVE it! Its a great lens and very sharp.

I just got one of those as well, and it's great! Definitely a hidden gem in the lineup.

| My local camera shop had an ex-demo with the lens hood for £300, but they are advertised from £360 on the web if you search a bit, but I believe they dont usually come with the lens hood though. |
