UPS Overnight shipping confirmation - my 7D kit will be here tomorrow!

Just excited and wanted to share :-)

Oops, tomorrow is a work day and you won't be there to sign for it. It will just have to stay on the truck. How sad :-(

It's getting shipped to my office. And even if I'm off on an errand, my secretary can sign for it. :-P

That is nice - thanks for the link. Pretty impressive video in low light. Wonder if they got permission to use the sound or if Moby is one of those artists who likes their work to be used?

Canon 7D software issue - I just downloaded the trial of CS4 (the website won't let me purchase an upgrade using PayPal oddly enough - just hangs....) and I downloaded and installed the latest version of the Camera Raw software, but Bridge still doesn't see the files, and double clicking still won't open the RAW files. Am I missing something obvious?

Edit to add that apparently Adobe is not yet supporting the medium RAW format, which is what I indeed have the camera set on. On the plus side, I needn't upgrade yet if that's the case. Or I need reset the camera to full RAW, huh? Grrr.... just more money....

I was in the camera shop the other day and we where chatting about it. And surprisingly for me , and for them, they have said that it is mostly videographers that are buying this camera, not photographers. They have sold out of their 11 they got.

Surprised me

Thanks for that link - very nice to see. I'd thought I'd read somewhere that he was a very generous artist and liked his music being used for stuff.

Imagine that... it's so fast that the scene doesn't even have time to change between frames. ;-)

Not very definitive testing of the higher ISO ranges. Mostly just out having fun with the camera. Light sources are varied and weirdly colored in most cases; subjects moving in some cases; used two different lenses. The image name includes the ISO setting.

Edit to add there was very little editing done here. Some crops, a couple with curves. All are from the small jpeg file except the one at ISO 800.

Here's a question, 7D guys & gals...does the wireless flash control allow you to 2nd-curtain sync the flash? I looked for, but could not find, the answer.
yep it does

YOU LIE!

Seriously, how? When I set the wireless control to ON, the curtain sync options are set to 1st. Even if I have it set to 2nd before I enable wireless, it changes it back to 1st curtain and greys out the other options. Yaaarrrgh!

Me, three. No examples at the moment, but 6400 requires only a tiny bit of Noiseware touch-up.

I dunno guys... I am disappointed after moving from the 20D to the 7D on the noise [just the noise... everything else is far better]..... I don't find the iso3200 as good as others find let alone the 2 stops above.... This is the biggest thing I have been struggling with after upgrading. The noise is different from the 20D and better in some ways but there is just something about it I don't like and I see more noise at lower ISO's then I did with the 20D [especially blocks of sky and alike]...... I have been hoping it's just me getting used to the new body but not so sure.... Might try pushing the exp comp up a bit to "exposure to the right" some....

Don't get me wrong... great body in numerous ways and the focus system is magic compared to the 20D.... I also tried out the new LR and that does a FAR better job on noise, so maybe that is the "fix" when that is available....

It's a matter of how you set your noise reduction parameters in RAW, it looks like to us. We had the same gut feeling at first, but we're doing much better now.

Here is an image @ 5000 ISO. One pass through Noiseware (auto-setting), resize down, and then USM. While the RAW file has some significant RGB noise in the darker shadows, the detail retained for a web-sized JPEG image is (IMO) nothing short of miraculous. The eval metering wanted something like 1 second at ISO 100, ramping that up to 5000 gave me 1/125.
