eta. I think they are a Hong Kong based company but they charge and pay all the import to the UK so there is nothing on top of that according to their t&c

That's right, until it comes through Customs and the delivery man arrives at your door and says here's your parcel, that's £60 for import duty and VAT!!

it seems from 2nd oct it will start to sell in stores in japan.
Good thing of being in japan is one can just walk in store and buy rather than ordering and waiting and waiting.

Psst... JR.com has this particular item in stock. Don't tell anybody.

Mpex outsold their first shipment. So I put one on order from Newegg.com. I'm hoping that the combination of ordering it with the lens from a non-photography shop will let me actually get one. And I put on overnight UPS, so if I do get one, it will be here for Friday.

Here's hoping :-)

I'm very impressed by the detail and low noise in sample photos. Even ISO 3200 is pretty darn clean here (better than the 50D at ISO 1600), and the gallery photos look great (quality-wise).

Sniff.... mine says "On backorder" for status and B&H is closing for 10 days starting 2 October. I don't think I'll see mine until the end of the month at the soonest. I've always counted on B&H but will admit I'm just a bit disappointed this time, particularly with them charging me (and they did) prior to shipping the product.

With the exchange rate over 0.7 at the moment it'll ship here from B&H for US$1770 which is NZ$2500. Even adding GST on (there is no duty on camera gear) that's still only NZ$2850. I guess the extra $350 is the premium for buying from a local store. I think I'd pay that for the "just in case" factor.

I'd get one if work didn't have me on half pay at the moment. I was thinking of buying some US$ in case the rate dropped before I am ready to buy it.

Where did you get that price from?

Everything i've seen or heard looks and sounds really good! the big thing for me is the focus though all the other things make it that much better. I didn't think i'd be interested in the video at all till i saw a few that looks really interesting too!

No, their terms and conditions state that the declare the import via the courier and pay the duty themselves, they don't try and sneak it past ... that's what their site says anyway

I've seen this company on Ebay, along with a few others and they normally say they will cover import duty, but they also state;

'Import Tax/Duty/Clearance Fee
The item will be shipped to you from our Hong Kong office. The item may be subjected to customs import tax/fee when it enters your country. By buying internationally, you are considered an importer. Therefore it is your responsibility in case there is some import tax/fee to pay.'

This is taken from their listing for Canon 5DMkII

Seems they change their minds like the weather:(

I have not read much of this thread. But I have to say it...

I am going to chuckle inside a little when ever someone says, "wow, wireless flash really works!" and "OMG 8fps sounds so cool".

Have fun with your new camera guys!

My main concern was noise, so that was the first thing to check. From what I can tell on a few quick snapshots, high ISO noise levels are slightly better than the 40D/50D, but thanks to the higher resolution it's a finer grain. Net result is about a 1-stop improvement at the same image size. 1600 is pretty clean, 3200 is usable, and 6400 is nasty.

Mine is MIA. I haven't gotten a shipping notice from Newegg and it's still listed as "pending." Guess I hedged the wrong bet trying to get one quickly. Goodness knows when it will arrive now.

Just curious what made you all decide on the 7D rather than the 5D MK2? Other than cost, of course.

8fps, more telephoto reach, wireless flash control, 24p video, cheap radio remotes, electronic level, 100% viewfinder, smaller file sizes, lots of buttons, and $1000 cheaper. I already have a 10mm lens, so the only downside for me is a little more noise.
