iPhone for posts
library for submissions.

I explained this in a unrelated thread about 1-2 weeks ago. You can probably look it up on my profile page in my posts after you leave a comment :) should still be on there.

OK I need to stop typing and enjoy bowling. Defending myself on a forum is hard work.

What, exactly, would you like us to do...? Any picture you post anywhere on the Internet has the potential of being "borrowed" by others. There's simply not a whole heck of a lot that can be done about that. As I've said to many people in the past, if you're worried about having a shot of yours stolen, then the Internet is the last place you should be putting it.

Just what is your solution?

PS: SC members have no access to the site code.

To start with, most of the images that are stolen are stolen AFTER challenges are over. (not stolen during challenges by our own members) After the challenge and voting is DONE, give members the option of having their own uploaded watermark applied to their own images. It would in no way effect challenges because they would still be voted on without any watermark, but after voting is finished let the owner of the photo have control over if it is watermarked or not. There is absolutely no reason this cannot be done. Heck, they could even make that an option for paid members only to boost revenues! The only reason I could see that they would not do so is because they would be afraid of losing a bit of advertising revenue because not as many photos would be poached from the site through direct linking, which I am guessing likely results in advertising clicks/revenue. If that is the case then the site is blatently allowing the stealing of the photographer's photos so that the site can make money...and obviously that is not a nice thing to do.

My second point is that since the photographer retains the ownership of the photo, it is insane that when a person leaves the site they are not allowed to have their photos removed. Essentially if you leave DPC, you are forced to allow YOUR photos stay on the site and help to make the site money, whether you like it or not....you have given them a perpetual right to make money from your photo for free! That needs to be changed as well.

I have made both of these points before and sent it in as a ticket as well...but to no avail. The site owners will not consider anything that might in some way decrease revenue, even if it is at the continued expense of the photographers that make the site what it is!

I apologize for the thread drift, but since it was in responce to an open question put out their by a member of the SC I hope it is ok. :)

Inbound links to a website increase its all important google page-rank. Besides, most of the photo stealing I've seen happening isn't via hot-linking.

eta: argh! I'm thread hi-jacking. This should probably be in it's own thread tbh.

I only assume noone else is on this site because noone else has ever mentioned an interest in photography. I shouldn't assume though....I know. As far as Monday being fun, yes it will. Because I will definetly go to their offices and joke with them about being booted. I find it funny.

As far the 1 vote I wasn't saying they were giving each other ones. What I was saying is that one vote probably didn't skew the results one way or the other. Not saying that it is right to do it but just stating that I probably didn't matter in the end unless they had several accounts each.

As for the ISP stuff that was just an assumption I made according to what I read in the first post. But it seems I am wrong about that because it seems to be a voting issue or a shared username issue.

Yeah, cheating's just hilarious.

Well stated and thanks for articulating what I too am concerned with. The idea of watermarking is recognized as an effective means of deterring theft by most stock agencies. It is not employed on this site for some unknown reason.

Most every other photo site recognizes your right to remove photos from the site in the event you not longer are a "member", this is not the case here.

As the site relies upon access to unimpaired site photos as an ongoing solicitation to secure paid membership, it receives compensation from our images in a manner not unlike a stock agency. It differs only in such a way that all financial benefits are retained by DPC and none are shared with the artists which unknowingly "donate" the "product".

Stock agencies are rabid when protecting their submitters and implement tangible "good faith" measures to ease the increasing concerns of copyright infringement. Though the site submissions are renamed for identification purposes, little is done to wield this identification as a means of protecting the artist.

By implying an "ownership" to the perpetual use of our images for profit, is it not incumbent upon DPC to at least offer reasonable measures to protect the images, or offer assistance in reasonable recourse, as a sign of good stewardship?
