I want to build my own website instead of depending on smugmug and being restricted that way.
I want to have it be all in flash and use XML for the photos and whatnot. However, I also want to have
a search option on my site so that people could find stock images according to what they are looking for. Would
I do that in PHP or should I just stick to XML?

That's no small task. You'll need PHP and MySQL at a minimum to create a searchable database.

Thats what I thought. I know nothing about PHP and mysql. Im sure I can learn it and will take quite some time to do so. I suppose if I will do this my website better be well worth it in the end.

Have a look at XQuery... it will do what you want from the xml files....
