Here's a short vid of me walking from my car through a shopping centre here in Dublin. Yes... that is a security guard standing at the entrance not noticing me ;-)

For anyone in the US (or anywhere else for that matter) - I'm curious if anything strikes you as unusual compared to where you live. Or do all shopping centres look and sound the same wherever you are in the world? Is every western country becoming generic, or are there any differences left? (Apart from the accents and driving on the wrong side of the road!)

Here's the vid: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr0LOU0ouHs

ETA: Dublin, Ireland, not Dublin, OH.... :)

In order of what I saw (I live in Newfoundland, Canada):

-yield sign is different (they're yellow here)
-mall has a lot of glass, it looks like an airport to me!
-wheelchair parking next to the building (that would be the fire lane here and no parking allowed, wheelchair parking would be the first spots in the parking lot where you parked)
-our mall security guards wear a uniform, not a suit
-stores & signs look like the ones in our malls, it looks like a typical mall

Warning road signs (like speed limits) have red borders here, the yellow ones are for information, like directional arrows. Yeah, there seems to have been a trend here for building with glass over the last 5 years or so. I've seen entire office buildings made of glass and steel. Coincidentally the new terminal at Dublin Airport is mostly glass.

Security guards in business parks and office blocks wear uniforms and yellow jackets. In shopping centres the guards all wear suits and have earpieces. A bit like Agent Smith out of The Matrix.

And yes, there's a KFC on the way in. No McDonalds though! :)

I'm thinking that shopping centres are as about generic as you can get, whichever country you're in. So what I'm going to do is take a video walk through the local village tomorrow. That's got pubs and churches and everything! :D

when i first read the post i thought it was for Dublin, Ohio. i thought the first word the the next sentence was Oh for ohio. when i started watching i thought to myself, this doesn't look anything like ohio. where are all the rusty pick-up trucks and kids with only diapers on.

When I was in Japan, the mall and department stores were pretty much the same as hear. Same hustle and bustle, noise, etc. Except, the kids (teens) were more well behaved.....

LOL! - Post edited. I'll see if I can get shots of the rusty pick-up trucks tomorrow. That's on the other side of the road... OTOH I don't want my cameraphone stolen... :)
