My flash worked fine up until about a week ago. I hadn't used the flash for about two weeks prior to the first time it started acting up. Now, no matter how I use the flash, on camera, on a sync cord, or as a slave, it has been failing. On brand new batteries, it works for maybe 15-25 flashes before the pilot light goes out and it won't work until I put new batteries in it. The flash also automatically shuts its self off after 15 seconds if I don't use it. It doesn't go into sleep mode because when I half press the shutter, it doesn't turn back on like it used to. Any ideas?

I had a very similar problem with my 430ex flash. I finally sent it in to Canon and they said that the "power switch assembly had shortened and recharging could not be carried out properly" (a farily common problem with this unit). My flash unit was very lightly used and I was having the same problems as you. See if your flash is still under warranty.....it should free of charge if it is.

I bought it less than a year ago, so it should still be under warranty. Thanks!
