Outdoor Photographer had an article that was one of those "duh" moments for me. It was called something like, get 4x5 results from your digial SLR. I think it would be bette to say 6x4.5 results, but whatever.

The point of the story, instead of using photomerge to make panoramics from landscape photos, turn your camera to the portrait orientation and and up with a standard aspect ratio photo at least 2x the res of your camera resolution. The article has several tips for the best results but I just popped of a decent one in my backyard handheld.

Also some good article on B&W from digital.
