I would tell her that there are many categories and types of modeling, each with its own set of rules and standards (arbitrary though they may be). High Fashion and Runway models must be tall and thin, for example, but glamour models need not be. Some models specialize as hair models, or headshot only, etc. Suggest she study up a bit--get magazines like W, Vogue, and see what kind of modeling she is interested in and seems suited for. You don't need to be her source of encouragement/discouragement--just a source of some information. She may or may not be able to be objective. If she is on Model Mayhem, she can trade with other photographers, will get a feel for things on her own.

I guess since I'm not shooting her now I should tell her the truth. The problem is that she knows what areas she wants to shoot and they aren't for her. I honestly don't know which type of modeling she would be good for...
Pineappple...that girls is in much better shape than this girl. I think that is just a matter of bad positioning of her body. A littler arc in her back and that stomach would be fixed. |

First, I would let the model know that "there is a market for every type of model if they are willing to keep looking for work until they find their niche".
Second, I would be extremely careful posting this type of thread because everyting is searchable these days and even if this client doesn't find this thread, potential future clients of yours may and think that you speak this way of all of your clients. Just saying, be careful of your "web presence".

if you can come on here and tell us how fugly you think she is (with every detail).. why can't you tell her? I mean, you seem pretty professional, so give her the same respect you showed here... |

Which truth do you want to tell her?
The hopeless truth that you see, or that with work, diet, exercise, waiting till her braces come off, that she can improve her chances.
It is a tough world for the cutest of girls, there is no guarantee for anyone. A gentle truth that leaves her with some dignity, and encouragement, might be a nice median. You already lied to get what you want. Suddenly it is important to be harsh and cold? Give her some pointers, and suggestions for improvement.
