Has anyone tried KelbyTraining.com? I in need of direction in learing lighting. (And everything else!) I would like to purchase lights, but don't know where to start. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would be thrilled.
Thanks - Diane |

I would like to get into lighting myself. I follow the goings on at //www.strobist.com.
Start with Lighting 101

As much as I dig strobist stuff, I hate the mind set it puts people in. Many develop some opposition to buying strobes, and feel everything can be done with speedlights...next thing you know a shoot that could be done with 3 strobes is now being done with 6 speedlights (and costing much more than 3 strobes would!)
I appreciate the concepts, but some people just get really stuck on the idea of it being "diy" or something. |

AJ - do you have any other suggestions. I've been going in circles with lighting and going nowhere fast. I figure starting from zero has to be the way to go. |

Trial and error is pretty awesome haha.
Start with 1 light, put your camera on manual and your speed light on manual and just see what happens.
If you want some kind of dvd or something like that, the Zack Arias ONE LIGHT WORKSHOP dvds are pretty sweet...takes a lot of the strobist type stuff and expands on it.
I mean there is nothing wrong with strobist, its awesome information and for beginning lighting, its great. My gripe is with the people that refuse to admit the limitations of only using a speedlight, and often ignoring how impractical it is at some times. |
