Hello all!!!
I am fairly new to photography I am an architect by trade and have started doing digital renderings of my structures and then photoshoping them into the site where they are to be built.
I bought the digital rebel to take shots of the site but i have been unimpressed with results using the EFS 18-55mm lens. I need a lens that will allow me to get closer to the subject and was looking at a Cannon 75-300 USM IS. Is that the right lens for the job???

Hi Ben, and welcome to the forum,
I just got the 300D too, its a great camera. I was looking at the 75-300 USM as well as the IS model but am now awaiting delivery of a second hand SIGMA 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO MACRO ZOOM, I've heard good things about all 3. I chose the Sigma for price reasons (£100) and can save up faster for a Canon 70-200 f2.8 L. If you do a search in the forum you will find several threads about all the lenses.
editted as I kant speil!

Of the Sigma, Canon and Tamron 75-300mm lenses, the Tamron actually got the best marks at photozone, but yes, you're looking at the right lens. :)

Hi Phillup,
can't help you with the lens question, but if you're interested in combining rendering and photography, you may want to get in touch with Marc Heesterbeek in Amsterdam (www.ubikmh.nl). If you do, please tell him Nicole says hello. |

If you want to get closer to your subjects, this thread may just be moving in the wrong direction (?).
To get physically closer, it seems to me, you'd need a wide angle prime or zoom.
I'd look at a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM for the purpose.
