Generally speaking, what is the wait time for approval of prints with DCPrints? I'm excited to get started and it's been a few (4 or 5) days.

It's usually only 1-3 days, but I think Langdon is away or busy, because I've had some prints pending for a few days also ... he is the only one who reviews the prints for public sale.

I had no idea that was his job too,

I have had prints approved in as little as a couple of hours, and then my only blue ribbon one took just over a week. (Which sucked!)

Blue ribbon? What's a blue ribbon? I didn't know they came in that color! Where can I get one?

When i ask for an image to be on DCPrints it's just for selling it?

No, you can just use it as your own printing service -- you can order prints for yourself at the base price, and prints you order for yourself do not need to be submitted for approval.

Pictures only need to be approved if you want to sell them to the public through the DPC Prints site; once they are approved you have to go set the final price to "activate" them as public prints. You get 50-75% of the difference between the base price and your sale price as commission, the larger figure if people get to the site through your referral link. Note that if you refer someone to the print site, you will get a 25% commission on any sales made during that session, even if they buy someone else's picture.
