Well last night, I got the neat idea of going outside on the front porch and try my luck at getting some lightning shots with a storm moving in. So I set up my camera on the tripod and do all my settings. I set the camera for 30 seconds and it usually takes about 30 seconds to process so I sat back in my chair and started enjoying a cigarette. Well this damn stray cat jumps on the porch and attacks the wrist strap dangling from my camera, and of course knocks over my tripod in the process. So the camera and tripod fall off the porch and smack HARD right into my driveway. Now my camera will not focus at all and when I press the shutter button, it takes its sweet time taking the picture no matter the settings or what mode. I have felt like I'm going to throw ever since it happened. So, now I'm screwed since we are entirely too poor to buy a new camera or have this one repaired. I did take it to a shop that repairs cameras and they told me it would be about $400, which I find insane since the camera was only $300. I guess if I get up the money, I may invest in a Nikon D60 since that is more of my price range. First I'll have to poison all the cats in the neighborhood so I dont have this happen again. |

Sounds like a plan - when you have finished you are welcome to come around here and kill off the ones who like shitting in my garden.. Which is why I hate cats and their owners intensely - if I find out whose cat it is I am going to save up a weeks worth of my two Labradors shit and dump it in their garden - and believe me, that would be one big bag of crap. My dogs are shit factories. |

Keep a spray bottle handy...cat's hate water spray and you can get them from a distance...but don't spray it towards your new camera...lmao!

Cats will be cats. Be prepared. Spray bottle is a good idea. |

well the cat's actions could be considered a blessing or a curse, or both. Maybe it was god acting through the cat telling you its time for that SLR ! |

Very sorry to hear about your camera getting damaged, but killing he cats is not the answer. If a cat hadn't done it a skunk, squirrel, or any number of other wild critters could have done the same thing.
Get yourself a replacement camera when you can, and learn from this - always secure the tripod and camera in a way that it cannot get knocked over should you be unable to stand at the ready with it. |

Yeah its nice having my own section here at dpc. But I do want to try and are how I can do with a nicer camera. My broken one had so many nice features and was a great camera. I wish now I had just gone to bed last night instead. But oh well. And I really wanted to enter 2 of the new challenges this week too. Maybe ill use my wifes camera. I hope my free study entry does decently as my last real photo with my camera. |

My sympathies, you must be devastated about the camera. Just wondering if you have any insurance that might cover it? Good luck. |
