lol no, i bought myself the fisheye, only to find out it was my christmas gift. doh!
so now im trying to convince my mom that waterproofing my 5Dii is essential for making me happy on my 18th bday:D |

Isn't it typical, for the past week I've been hoping to get a shot for the Bird challenge. It ended today and I went out, guess what I found?

I completely forgot about the bird challenge. Well, not the challenge but when the challenge entries were due. I did shoot for it. Had some very fun pigeon shots from Berlin (who'd a thunk I'd shoot pigeons?) and a couple from my front porch.

| I forgot about it too. A couple times I saw birds in cute spots (like a morning dove in a holly berry tree), but thought, eh, I'll find something else. So I never actually shot for it. |

My scores have really sucked lately, and I'm not sure why. I know some of the recent ones have been lack of any real effort when shooting for the challenge. But others, I just don't get. I just got a comment on my "love" entry that mentions horizontal banding, I don't see it. Have my eyes really gotten that bad? Seriously, someone else look at it and tell me if it's true so I can head back to the eye doctor and tell him I need new glasses. |

I didn't see banding, but my eyes are bad to begin with. I've been editing on my husband's laptop and I'm afraid that my editing is going to be very badly off. I can't figure out what the right screen angle is. The picture changes drastically depending on the angle.
I think it's the end of the year blues for people. My recent entries have been much lower (with one exception), but I've been shooting more out of desparation than joy. So between harsh voters all the way around and my questionable shooting, it's not a great combination. I wonder what the new year will hold? |

| I think we need a candid discussion thread after the challenge is over. I would be interesting to know what criteria people are using. I found that I was using multiple criteria and it surprised me. |

The horizontal banding is definitely there, in the background, which is also very noisy. It *looks* as if your BG was underexposed and you used shadow/highlight to recover it; noise is a given, and banding not uncommon, when we do that.

I used topaz detail on it. I think it was the creative detail accent preset. I think I might have forgotten to use noise reduction though which I usually use whenever using topaz. I can't see the banding though, so I guess it's either the quality of the monitor I'm using or my script is off for my glasses. LOL! |

| I forgot to enter Candid, argh! Oh well. Birdy is getting kicked around at 5.3. However, last night Ryan materialized on my doorstep around 8pm...we were up til about 4, shooting and helping each other shoot for Paul Simon...then we crashed and when we woke up, picked up where we left off! :-) |

| I signed up for a Fine Arts Photography course today. I contacted the teacher to decide if I should enroll in the Introductory or Intermediate class. After talking for a while, he said I was underestimating myself, and he put me in the Advanced class. That's a nice way to end one year and begin another. :) |
