I have a potential entry for each of the open challenges - any one care to give me their view as to which I should go for?

I see I need to update the TeamSuck scripts with your new username. People, please send me a PM if you change your username, or the scripts won't find your entries! I don't get online often enough to keep up here.

Teams may begin to compete for his membership! (and of course by "compete" I mean "bribe me"..)

Oh yes!

Good news in the SaraR household. My youngest daughter, 21, having experienced a year and a half of unemployment, decided to go back to education to try and get the entry qualifications for university - she has just got an offer for Sheffield to read Japanese, and her offer is just a pass. Basically that means that they want her, and all they demand of her is that she shows commitment by finishing the course. Sheffield is a really good university, so it is all happiness here!

Congrats!! But I think I am lost in the British-American translation - what is meant by "read Japanese"? And does the rest mean that she's essentially on a scholarship or free ride from the university? And congrats again!

'Read' is to study for an first degree; 'offer' is the grades you are required to get in the exams you are doing to try to get in to uni (normally A'levels at 18, but in the case of mature students, the Access Diploma); and sadly no, virtually no scholarships in the English education system. Basically, you can apply to up to 5 universities, they either reject you out right or give you an offer. Once all universities have mad an offer/rejection, the student selects the offer that they most want, with one back-up reserve (usually the offer that requires the lowest grades). Sheffield usually asks VI form pupils (ie 18 yr olds) for AAB for Japanese, but have only asked L for a Pass at the Access course which equates to DDD - sometimes Unis will make a very low offer to encourage a student they really want to select that uni as their first choice.

OK, now THAT part I can understand! Japanese will be quite the challenge, but is a beautifully written language, that's for sure!
