if you're a little brave, google for the "cookbook" called Natural Harvest. perhaps some of the food shots were done by merchillio ;)

um, don't ask how i know about this book... because i'll just tell you. someone bought it as a joke gift for one of my roommates. it now sits proudly on our coffee table.

ETA - possibly nsfw depending on how strict your company is... i mean, it should be fine, no bad words or nudity or anything but the subject matter is somewhat... questionable.

EATA - don't look for it if you're grossed out by unusual uses for the stuff merchillio mentioned earlier in the thread.

Okay, I could let the first part slide... But after you said STRAWBERRIES? I just gotta break the "don't ask" request and... well, ASK.... ?!?!?!

Just to mention again -- thanks for all the ideas. I found it (the glycerin, I should specify at this point in the thread!) at a local health food store. It was actually sold as a skin protectant product in the vitamin isle. Tried Walmart, many grocery stores, and called around to over 20 (seriously!) pharmacies and drug stores. Must be a controlled substance here in AZ! Just kidding, of course. But, wow that was hard to find.

Mixed an ounce or two with water in a small mister and adjusted the mixture a bit based on testing. Ended up with probably a 1:1 mixture, actually -- I recall using 2 or 3 to 1 the last time I did this. Worked beautifully. Depending on what the client wants to end up doing with the final images, I'll try to post some examples.

Annnnnywaaay, back to..... STRAWBERRIES? ;)

That was too easy not to try. But now I wish I hadn't of done that. :P

Yeah, more warning might have saved me. But probably not. I'm pretty sure I'm going blind now.

(Which is quite a funny double-entendre once you know what what book is about...) :P

This is one of those glorious few times in my life I am ACTUALLY CLOSE TO falling out of my chair laughing. Whew! Breathe in... breathe out.... Whew...... :D

By the way, if you have a browser that supports google's display-of-possible-search-matches-drop-down-as-you-type.. Just search for "nautural harv"... as soon as you hit the v, you'll get the idea! :P

I had no idea when I started this, it would become one of the best threads EVER. ;)

Yup, our Walmart has currently has it.
Also try any store with soap-making supplies, though it would probably cost at least twice as much there.

And Merchillo.... I won't ask, since you said not to, but I'm dying of curiosity!

Ok, I'll ease your curiosity. Don't quite remember where the idea came from, but a lot of alchool must have been involved. But we took the idea of sexy and arousing picture of my friend (a nice looking lady) eating strawberries (some fruits can have a nice sexual tone to them: bananas, cherries, strawberries) but taking it to the extreme. I'll admit she's a very naughty girl with a very naughty mind. The use of semen was her idea. But problems quickly arose:
1- she has a boyfriend
2- Boyfriend doesn't share her enthusiasm about that kind of pictures
3- Boyfriend likes even less the idea of her playing with another man's semen (mine in this instance)

so we thought of that little stratageme,

you take a glass of water, you add sugar, and I mean A LOT fo sugar and gelatin. you let it cool in the fridge but you take it out often to stir while adding more sugar.

It's a trial and error process really. The sugar realy give a heterogenous and uneven look. I added some white cake frosting too.

We poured it on the strawberries and had fun taking pictures. Unfortunately, it turn out a bit too transparent to my liking, nothing PS can't cure I guess

The nice thing: it tastes really good (or so I heard)

so now she's left to explain to anyone that sees the photos that the goo on the berries wasn't real ?

hmm - seems a conundrum to me...

Ohhhh yeahhh, I'd forgotten about that book! Believe it or not, my daughter told me about it way back when, and we even discussed which recipes might be worth trying...

I think the funniest part of that book, is the very clear warning that you should not make these recipes without telling people what they are eating....
