I am entertaining puttng some of my prints in a local shop to sell on consignment. I don't currently have a business or a tax ID because I want to just get my feet wet and see how it all pans out first. I have a generic consignment agreement written up but what keeps the document legal where I can hold them to it? Does anyone think that the store will require me to have a business or will the taxes they collect keep everything legit? Any pointers on consignment selling will be very helpful! I planned on offering 10% of the total sale to the shops that display my work. Lot of questions I know
Thanks

I have not sold prints this way, but jewelry a long time ago.
I do not think the store will require that you be a "business" and it is none of their concern. Any income derived here is between you and the IRS. All they need is a written and duly signed document laying out how the sale will be divided. Like you said, you might give them 10%.
Best thing, is go into the store and talk to the owner/manager.
Good luck!
