I have decided to scan my hundreds of rolls of film I shot prior to going digital. I picked up a high res scanner and the software seems decent.

What would be the best way to clean the negatives prior to scanning? I don't want to scan dirt, fingerprints, etc. Are there any squeegie tools that can be run down the negatives? Are there particular solvents that are effective but safe?

Any insight is appreciated.

All I use is a can of air. "Blow Off" Duster is what our art school sells in the photo store and what I use. It doesn't get everything off, but it's a start.
