In a poster type picture I saw a beautiful white thin border around the print about a quarter of an inch inside the picture. I have played with this by drawing a line around the picture using the shift key, however I know it must be easier using layers..any suggestions...I have placed a small picture in my portfolio (nt_sm) with this thin border idea...
thanks
James

From the help in photoshop Elements 2
To stroke a selection or layer:
Select the area or layer you want to stroke.
Choose Edit > Stroke.
In the Stroke dialog box, specify the width of the hard-edged border. Values can range from 1 to 250 pixels.
To set the stroke color, click the color swatch to select a color in the color picker.
For Location, specify whether to place the border inside, outside, or centered over the selection or layer boundaries.
Specify a blending mode and an opacity. (See Setting options for painting and editing tools.)
To stroke only areas containing opaque pixels on a layer, select Preserve Transparency. (If your image has no transparency, this option isn't available.)
Click OK to stroke the selection or layer.
Hope that helps - regards tony

Notice that sometimes people will give out lower scores because of this border. Sometimes it works well with a photo but sometimes it doesn't. |

Initial idea, havent tried this but first thoughts are 3 layers
Top layer - Your photo cropped to where you want the line
Middle layer - white layer 2px bigger than the top layer all round
Bottom Layer - The full picture
did that make sense? |

Just select the area inside the shot using the marquee tool then follow the instructions by agwright to 'stroke' the marquee into an actual line or border. |
