I just noticed that I hold the 3 highest scores for the use of my type of camera here, but then, none of those socres are very high . . . . either the camera isn't so great, or those of us who have them aren't ready for a better one yet. For me, it's probably more "user error". LOL

It's not hardware which makes a good photograp, its the photographer. Just hang around keep submiting photos and listen to the comments. ?Then stdy the winners and work out what they did.

Keep trying and don't get dis-heartened.

Thanks, Falc. Actually, it really struck me as funny! What I have been thinking is that if I continue to improve, keep motivated, and really learn to use the camera I have to its higest potential (for me), then I can justify a "better" camera -- maybe next year. There are many examples here of the type of visions I would love to able to carry out, and I do study those for guidance constantly!

"Description for Easyshare DX6440 Digital Camera: Snap a picture with the DX6440 and you'll be impressed by your photographic genius. Something else sure to impress is its professional-quality Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon lens. The DX6440 also features programmed scene modes for a quick, simple solution ..."

Hey, it says it right in the ad.

You must have made the same mistake I did when I bought my cam...forgot to order the "photograp" attachment with it.

Glad yall saw the attempt at humor there....I just finished a 10 day stay in hospital and I'm about ready for some of the lighter side of life.

I was glad to see that people understood the fun side of what I was saying, too. So sorry to hear of your misfortune, David. I hope you will be feeling much better so you can take a whole new slew of great shots!! Best wishes!

This is true to a degree, particularly in the case of film photography. However, in digital photography there is a handicap in having a camera that lacks the higher tech functions of the cameras a lot of users work with. My outdated camera allows for very limited range of depth of field, for instance, making it difficult for me to blur out distracting backgrounds without the illegal use of Photoshop. With an SLR, I would have no problem with this kind of shot. If I don't have enough light to shoot without flash, all I have is direct flash built into the front of my camera. I don't even have a fill flash setting. I can't bounce flash to add light without adding harsh shadows. I've noticed some of the high end cameras have hot shoes for separate flash (which can be tilted to various degrees, or even held away from the camera). My camera's close-up range is far inferior to cameras that cost less than I paid for mine in 1999. In terms of image quality, my 1.92 megapixel camera can't compete with 3+ megapixel cameras, let alone the 6+ megapixels a lot of users are working with.

I'm not saying better equipment will make an unskilled photographer take better pictures, but all things being equal, the photographer with the better equipment is at a distinct advantage.

Agreed, but a photographer with a good eye ans some skill will take better pictures with a point and shoot than an unskilled but rich dSLR owner.

I agree with Melismatica . . . . I can't wait until I am skilled and knowledgeable enough to use a higher end one and really be able to do some of the things I want (night photoraphy and DOF issues especially). But I am not ready to make use of so much of it yet, so I tell myself to just keep practicing until that day with the camera that got me into all this!I type so slow, that Falc's got ahead of me . . . . that is the truth!

"Not all cameras are created equal, nor the photographers that use them."

Hey Kylie, I lOVE your stuff. I'm impressed with the clarity of the photos--at least some of that is the camera, but I gotta hand it to you, too. Your point of view is always interesting and exciting. Simply put, you do quality work!

Like me of late, perhaps the photos simply need to 'meet the challenge' in more clear ways?

Your preaching to the choir. That's what I meant by 'all things being equal'. :-) At any rate, I just placed 26th in the Opposites challenge with my artifact. So there you go. I belied my own argument. Still, I sure would love a new camera....;-)
