My 30D + 70-200 + 1.4TC combined with the 400 f/4 + 1.4TC should give a pretty decent amount of coverage (200 f/2.8, 280 f/4, 400 f/4, 560 f/5.6 - again, not taking crop factor into account). That should allow me to get everything from the 3rd baseman (and perhaps a runner sliding into 3rd) completely in the frame (70-200 + 1.4TC) to the 1st baseman framed nicely (400 + 1.4TC - which may need a bit of cropping). Is my assessment wrong?
Please don't think that I'm discounting your advice, probably the farthest thing from it, actually. I'm just trying to visualize all of the possible infield shots that I'll be trying to get and the approximate focal length that I'll need to proper frame everything. Of course, there is a high probability that I'm way off...LOL! Oh and the thought of carrying both the 300 and 400 f/2.8 lenses sounds great in theory, but that is ALOT of weight in glass...

| You are right about your coverage with the lenses you want to bring. Those TC's eat up a lot of light though. I should have clarified my statement about renting the big lenses. Rent one or the other , not both! LOL |
