Unless something untoward occurred since my last post in that thread, I'd have to say I find your comment here (not the part about the photo -- that's great) out of line ... :-(

What's amiss is how we learn photography. We do things backwards. We first learn how to operate the camera and then we learn how to see.

A lot of people (me included) come here to improve their photography, and learn from the talented people who are already on the site.

When you're learning photography, for some reason emphasis is placed on sharpness, focus, etc, so naturally the people here, because they are learning and in the mindset that sharp clear vivid photos are "better" than blurry / out of focus ones naturally vote lower on a shot like this.

If however you were to see this picture in a different context, say in a gallery or exhibition, those same people who voted it low would most likely marvel at it and admire how creative and artistic it is.

There are often some fantastic images in the challenges that don't make it anywhere near the top of the pile, and it's great that they are here to be seen, even if you do need to do a bit of digging to come across them.

To be honest, I really think you ought to reread some of the last few exchanges.

I'd really like to keep this on topic instead of as a pissing contest, if you don't mind.

IMO, you started any "pissing contest" with your preamble, and you seem to have completely ignored (or failed to understand) the bolded parts of my statement. I felt no need to go back and re-read a bunch of personal carping, but up to my last post in that other thread, I did not consider either myself or karmat to have been "out of line" as you accuse us of being.

Exactly what was your point in including that statement in what was otherwise a useful discussion of the esthetic values of different styles of photographs? "Post and run" sniping doesn't sit well with me -- I think you have to expect return fire.

Now, if you want to go back and edit out that part of your post, I'll be happy to remove my responses and let the thread continue on its merry way ...

Nope, and I had nothing to do with locking the other one either ...

... however, apparently a lot went down after the last time I posted to that thread, which was also the last time I read it. So whatever upset you, I didn't have anything to do with it, or even know about it.

However, I still believe that instead of, as you put it, "taking the high road" and simply starting a thread discussing a certain aspect of photography, you chose to preface it with a rant about how the site moderators were running amok and trampling on your rights. That would be fine if you wanted to start a separate thread discussing criteria for locking threads, but to just take a potshot at SC members -- not naming names so as to tar us all with the same brush -- in that thread and not expect a response is ...
