With that said, time for me to plug Nikon. I was shooting at a concert last night and had half a beer dumped on me and my D200. After my initial reaction of SH*%! I was amazed how it continued to shoot just fine throughout the night...

Beer sealing, now there's a distinction! |

Not being a Nikon guy and just out of curiousity, how does the grip make the fps faster? |
I assume it allows higher, more stable voltage and current to a internal processor.
*shrugs* |
Yep, the bigger EN-EL4a battery in the grip is 11.1V/2500mAh, while the standard battery EN-EL3e is 7.4V/1500mAh. You'll only get 8 fps when using the EN-EL4a or 8 AA batteries, not with just an extra EN-EL3e. |

Some random thought....
* I think the huge gap in the Nikon pro lens line up is the lack of the f4 zooms (and I think some primes). Not an issue if your going for the 2.8 set but the rest of us....
* Canon lens prices have been going up a LOT recently as they push mk2 versions of the lenses... I would think that is a wash but depending on specific lenses it might not be.
* Having used both - the Nikon flash system eats the Canon one alive... just not in the same ball park and it's in the features and simplicity not so much the end result. eTTL can be made great if used well but Nikon seems easier out of the box for us mere mortals.... probably not a huge deal to you but worth a mention.
* Canon are not apparently interested in a FF pro focus small body like the D700 (yeah... bring on the fanboys but seems to be reality and in your scenario I would think it would be worth making your own mind up on that topic).... so do you want to go to something like the D700, you are likely out of luck in Canon land as they seem to be avoiding that segment to push 1-series bodies.... Having typed that I hope they prove me wrong. |

I switched from Nikon to Canon and have never regreted it at all, I have many great lenses now that I could never have got while shooting Nikon, most of my camera buddies shoot Canon and have given me some great deals when they upgrade their kit.
