Hi all!
I'm quite new ... hope my question isn't too newb-ish. I've been Googling as much as I can in the past couple of weeks, and finally decided I needed to ask directly.
My Sony P&S (a DSC-W90) died on me last month (fatal "lens error") after barely two years.
I've been searching for a replacement P&S since. It's been frustrating trying to figure out what camera is good for what I'm seeking and is also carried in Canada for a reasonable price.
I'm looking for something fairly compact (as long as it fits into a regular handbag), something that takes pretty clear, crisp photos for a P&S, about 9MP or higher, does video with sound, use for family/vacation photos, with rechargeable batteries. Under $300 (Canadian!). I'm shying away from Canons because many of them seem to suffer from similar lens error defects.
I've got my eye on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. It's hard to find here in Toronto, though, and no major retailers seem to have it in stock anymore. It seems my Sony imploded at a really bad time. I saw it at B&H online and even with the shipping and taxes, it's just about $300 Canadian. I'm worried about the warranty though; I don't think Panasonic would honour it if I shipped it here.
Any fellow Canadians out there with suggestions for a suitable camera? Is it worth risking the warranty to just buy this Panasonic?
Thanks.
