How about a section for photos that either were grossly ripped off in the voting and/or DQ'd? I would think that both would offer insights to better photography. In both cases, it would be examples of what not to do! I'd also like to see the DQs, just because many of them were great works of art, but slipped on a rule or two. Konador's Castle shot comes to mind, but there are other photos that could be proudly displayed. Maybe call it - Misques or Ooops! |

Disqualified shots are not displayed on the site and therefore could not be added to a gallery.

Drew, couldn't you create a storage site for them? |

There are so many DQs each week that most people don't even notice (which should hopefuly be reduced now borders are allowed) that the gallery would be full of so many different things.
Also, people might like to forget about their DQd images, rather than have people see them in the DQ gallery and have themselves seen as a "cheat".

I'm not saying they ARE cheats, but someone visiting the site, will see the DQ gallery and think "All these people have cheated!"
The will not know WHY they have been DQd or the circumstances leading up to the DQ.
All they will think is that the people in there have broken the rules.

O.K. - two additions to the DQ gallery. What "rule" was broken and how the person could have avoided it/maybe even the owner's comments/thoughts and the owner of the picture's permission to display. I'm really not attempting to rub anybodies noses in their "crimes". That's not even close. "learn your lessons from the past or be doomed to repeat them" is the quote that is rambling in my brain. In no way was I attempting to put up a display to punish anyone. If offered the chance, I would have voted to allow your Castle and leave it as the winner. I DQ'd kendall's first submission. It was a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT shot, but a tiny date rule thing made me "do the right thing". I would love to see his picture displayed here anyway. It's another classic, such as yours.
That's one reason I prompted to call the gallery Oops...
Now, I did suggest two ideas for galleries....any thoughts about the other?

What do you mean "Grossly ripped off in voting"?
Do you mean they didn't get the score they deserved?
Who decides if they got the score they deserved?

This would be a nomination type gallery, sort of like your favs, but different. I would ask you....Haven't you ever seen a photo that placed in the lower third that you gave a 10? Wouldn't it be a nice, warm fuzzy to know that, even if not a fav, you could say it should have scored better?
Since I have some extra time on my hands, I'm up for a friendly discussion! |

I have many times thought a photo deserved to be higher, but the problem with this is that it is an opinion. If a photo has very low score then the majority of the site obviously don't like it, and do not agree that it would belong in the gallery.

Now, wouldn't that be a great topic of discussion! |

People used to frequently post a list of their "under-appreciated" photos in the forums right after the vote was tabulated.
How about a gallery for these, in which each user/member can have one photo posted at any one time? It could be ANY photo -- one of their own they felt was misunderstood at the time, or one of someone else's they really liked. Kind of a special category of "favorite." |

Paul! Now we're talking! That's very much along the lines that I was thinking! Good variation!!! |
